Go after Darnold, Flacco, or, Winston, any of those the will keep the team respectable enough to not be an embarrassment, draft multiple QB's in the mid rounds or virtually anywhere other than than 1st this year, and just let the kid(s) sit and learn. If neither of them appear to have 'it' by end of the year, run it back and do it again.
Well... 72 QBs taken in the third round or later the past ten years.

Two of those are good: Prescott and Purdy. Next best is Minshew, then a few guys like Trevor Siemian, then a bunch of dreck.

In other words you could grab a couple of mid-round QBs every draft for twenty years and not find one.

I re-read the ten years part before I started questioning.

Will the scales ever turn back to the Montana, Brady, Favre...even Cousins days with information so much more obtainable? I doubt it, but then again, some guys have the insides that are just beyond scouting.

Makes you wonder how many QB have been drafted in rounds 1-2 (in the last 10 years) that failed miserably.

My guess is more than 72.

I think part of the problem with QBs drafted in the top 10 is that they're going to bad teams.

But rd2 QBs will likely only have a few hits. Iirc Dak was seen as a 2nd rounder by some but fell. Did he have a dui? I forget.

Well I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here but it's basic "supply and demand." There aren't enough good quarterbacks so the demand is high. Teams make concessions to get a quarterback as soon as possible.

Add in GM and HC jobs weighing in the balance.
Add in that some QB are coming out early based on a small sample size of production in a watered-down D1 pool.

Its a recipe for disaster. And it is.

On Westwood One radio to start the Ravens-Browns game, they just said Zappe is the 40th starting QB for the Browns since they "came back" to the NFL in 1999.

Yeah I'm aware that 1st rounders have a better track record, especially recently, than anything further down, totally get that. But if you're not in position to score that absolute lock, or there is no absolute lock that year, than don't do it. Sign that journeyman, draft the kid(s) that might fit but need some work, develop them, and eventually, you'll have a decent QB.

I think a much bigger problem today is the zero patience with rookies, and everyone is far too quick to cast them aside and the league writes them off entirely. Lord only knows if some of these 'busts' had a year (or more) sitting and learning behind a Brett Favre, Rodgers, or Alex Smith like Rodgers, Love, and Mahommes did, where their careers would be today.

Titans fans everywhere would like to thank the bills backups for losing to the Pats, colts for somehow losing to the giants, general incompetence by Levis and lack of talent from Rudolph to secure the #1 pick next spring

I wonder just how much the Patriots lost by winning that game. #1 overall pick, with a 2nd year franchise QB locked up. What could they have traded that for?? Could've been a huge haul

The Lovie Effect worked out great for Texans although Bryce Young has finally started looking like a real prospect with pro level potential under Canales, too bad they only play vs Falcons defense 2x every year

Well they already fired Mayo for winning the game. They can say whatever they want, but he got fired because he won that game.
