that's a pretty brutal hit. not sure the actual one that got him was really dirty, looks like the first guy came with a high forearm that knocked his head down, which put it in the path of the defender who was already diving at Sermon's waist/lower body to make the tackle before Sermon puts his head down from 1st contact.

to me, it looks like #42 is diving to put a hard shoulder into Sermon's waist area, but #28 forearmed Sermon's head which knocked it into 42's tackle path.

am I viewing this wrong?

Looks like the right analysis to me.

It’s weird to me that you can fly in high and knock a runner’s head with your forearm. I know it’s getting harder and harder to play defense with all the rules, but guys are always getting faster and stronger. Sometimes football is seriously ugly. I worry about his head but also the vertebrae in his neck.

Dang that was pretty brutal and no wonder he got concussed.

My wife only ever watched about 20 minutes of football. It happened to include the Kevin Everett hit. She never watched again.

5 carries 2 yards, he does know which direction he's supposed to go ...right?
1) I think its funny that you quoted yourself in this post.
2) I guess that's one way the Raiders will start passing downfield... when the RB start rushing for negative yards.

I'd say your viewing it spot on. If anything was "dirty" it would be the forearm delivered by #28, It certainly appears that that was exactly what he was trying to do. Perhaps he was aiming at the shoulder area and missed and it wasn't an "intentional" forearm to the head, but he deserves a fine none the less. As for #42, there's some gray area, while he did lead with his shoulder, he also did lower his head, which, I think, is against the rules. I wouldn't be surprised if he was fined as well, although I don't think he deserves one. Hits/tackles, are made like this on every other play and don't result in fines.

He clearly hits the shoulder before the helmet. Tough sport. Shit happens.

The call ruined a tough defensive game.

For those who desperately need a RB lifeline Patterson and Mitchell may provide it.

you mean Paterson and Patrick??

Personally, if both Sermon and Mitchell are inactive, my money is on Kerryon Johnson being activated and given more opportunities than Patrick. At least he's been around for a couple weeks, and is an NFL vet that at least has some idea of pass pro.

But Patrick, at 6'3", 233..if he can navigate the Shanny zone system effectively..that's friggin scarey
