Gotta wonder, though - does the team’s scheme drive player performance, or does a player’s performance drive the team’s scheme?

It’s a stew, of course. But look at RB receptions for both the Panthers and Niners with/without McCaffrey.
I didn't do this calculation every season.
Last time was after the 2021 season. > Buffalo = 13% to the TE. Ranked 32nd, dead last.

For the record, last season, only 7 teams threw more passes than the Buffalo.

Wow..check out the Eggles...70% to AJ Brown, Smith and co...a paltry 18% to the TE, and they've got a dude like Goedart..and their entire RB room also excells in the passing game, and they only got 12..and the 4th lowest passing percentage in the league at just a fraction over 50% of the time. Poor Goedart.

Think he missed like 5 or 6 games last year, so yeah, Hurts fed his WRs over Jack Stoll and Grant Calcaterra. Quez Watkins was a nice WR3 too, good size speed athlete.

I did find 2020.
Buffalo was 12%.
Only 2 other teams had less targets to the TE.

And it could be the QB too...Goff threw plenty to Everett/Higbee...Stafford not so much, cuz he only threw to Ebron/Hock when there were no good alternatives.

Spears sucks if it takes an arrest for him to jump Haskins vs just being a better RB
Well, to be fair I highly doubt Haskins would've been more than a minor speed bump. But one less body to step over, is one less body to step over, regardless

I agree.
With Henry coming off an injury the previous season, the Titans could've lightened his load by using Haskins. Me think that speaks volumes as to what they think of him.

To be honest, I'm utterly shocked that neither Cook or Hopkins has signed somewhere yet. That normally means they either aren't getting the type of money they think they deserve or just don't want to go anywhere that has offered them a contract.

If I were Cook, I'd be sitting on the beach with a fruity umbrella drink until someone goes down in preseason (more or less)... that's hyperbole, obviously..but why bother signing right now, even if the money is right?

Especially for a RB...ZERO reason for him to subject his body to training camp or preseason as a vet who's been in multiple systems- there's only so much that can be different from scheme to scheme for the RB position.

I'd honestly be somewhat surprised if he signs anywhere until last week of July/first of August..maybe not even until into the preseason games

And yrs, given the ridiculousness of devaluing of the position, I'm sure the money isn't right either, but chances are, it never will be either.

Nuk however, much less risk to his body, and he needs some 'gel time' with the QB..so I totally buy that no one is offering him the cash he's looking for at the moment

Great job Josh. I'm pretty sure Mahomes is okay looking at this post while polishing his two Super Bowl rings though.

Hence the phrase, circle the wagons.
