I guess relatively speaking 9 million is cheap, co.pared to the 15 mill next year..but still, what contending team has 9 million in cap space, and a need big enough to trade anything of value for him? And who besides a contender, would want him for the remainder of the season?

The prorated amount is listed in the tweet from Breer. Trading for him now means the new team wont assume the full cap hit. So yes cheap for the rest of the year but next year is a larger issue.

I understand the difference. His whole cap hit this season was just under 9 million. The new team wont be responsible for the full amount...just the amount per game that he is with them.

I still think a 2nd is too high for Sanu but he will be productive there since that system really like the 3-5 yard pass

Ha, I doubt the Lions look at RB as a piece that'll suddenly make them contenders..especially with GB and Minn. running away with the division

Trading players

Let's say 2 teams trade a player. Team 1 is trying to get rid of one player, Team 2 is trying to get that player.

Team 1 takes a hit the same as if they released the player. They have the player's salary and bonus roll up come due on their cap.

Team 2 is only responsible for the future salary to be paid to the player.

Yeah, I was hoping to deal Harris for a 2nd. Apparently, that was the asking price, but if they had 6 teams interested and couldn't get anything done, that's pretty weak, imo.

They probably figured that having no targets would screw with Darnold's development too much. Of course their turnstile offensive line is probably going to be a bigger factor there anyway

He is going to walk so it would have been a 4th next year or a 4th comp pick at best the following year.

I know that he is going to walk at the end of the year but I was talking about Darnold's development over the next 9 games. They need to figure out what they're going to do at QB going forward by the time the offseason rolls around and they probably thought they wouldn't be able to evaluate Darnold properly if they put him out there with no targets. Of course there's probably still a discussion/argument to be had about the actual value of that.

I know I just dont expect much with Gase at the helm. OC might be his ceiling and even then he had Peyton to lean on.

Oh yeah I think he is just awful too. I took Darnold when he was still a college player in a semi-dynasty league I'm in that has that (I'm holding Justyn Ross in that spot right now) and I've been thoroughly frustrated watching the Jets.
