Part of what makes Pederson a great play caller is his RBBC approach. RB always has fresh legs and he utilizes different skill sets very well.

It's just not the same when you keep 1 back out there for majority of snaps.

Howard will get between 33-40% of their carries if he's the lead back for PHI, that's about a 120 carries (based on 350 for their backfield next yr)

While I share eagle's enthusiasm, it is tough for a back in a RBBC to get significant touches. Last year, only one PHI back averaged over double-digit touches per game. (Everyone else was in single digits.)

That may be good news for Howard, but getting to 20 touches in a spread offense is very optimistic.

I'm still scratching my head at the 6th round pick...that is a giveaway. I'm a little behind on my football, but whatta you think about all this, Joe?

Don't like it.
I like Nagy/Pace.
But they're not infallible.
I feel this may be another Greg Olsen trade deja vu.
A guy who plays on 90% of the offensive plays and garners 40% of the touches doesn't fit the offense.
Crazy.

I agree. I get the pass catching woes, but he's a 3 down back who can tote the rock. Doesn't make sense.:crazy::crazy:

I gotta wonder if the Howard deal has more under the surface, some discontent with his role, perhaps some "personality clashes" with coaches or teammates? Or maybe they've just got a cherry target in the draft that they feel will fit better and will be "their guy", not to mention, cheaper.

He's the best back Pederson has had here.

I don't have a good feel for how he's going to use him in the passing game. But as far as rushing goes he'll get over 200 and that'll put him about 15th.

Last year there was no one back there to rely on. The whole backfield traded injuries all year.

The year before Blount had 173 rushes. That number would have put him 21st last year.

Doug's teams have rushed 438, 473 and 398 times.
350 would be on the low end and has already removed the QB runs from the total.
Also consider that the 398 number came in the season when there was no one back there that you'd really want to run with.

Then there is your 33-40% distribution estimate. That seems low and might not even lead the backfield.

Joe stats show Eagles are near the bottom for RBs touches. Ajayi was a big get for the Eagles, many thought he would be a workhorse, but Doug believes in having a committe and why not it's worked out well for him.

This is a little embarrassing, but the "team" chart data was pulled to isolate the top touch leaders on each team. So Philly's numbers only include Josh Adams (127), Wendell Smallwood (115) and Corey Clement (90). So Jay Ajayi (50) and Sproles (44) and their 94 more touches are not included.

This wasn't intentional. But when I pulled the data after the season, it was for active players on each team. Ajayi and Sproles both were free agents so the data pull didn't include them as members of the Eagles.

Maybe I need to re-pull the data?

Just pulled the data again (from ProFootball Ref).... still doesn't show Ajayi or Sproles.... :mad2:

Which means I may have to do this the old-fashioned (longer) way for all 32 teams. :mad2::mad2:

Scrambling to fix.
Numbers are still not far off.
Philly does get bumped to 17th.
But the average touch per team per game goes from 24 to 26.

I'd read that too, but a 6th rounder? Gotta be something more to it.
