To me, it just puts into question the reliability of these scouting reports.

How does a guy like Richardson get drafted early in the first round, but a guy like Purdy nearly goes undrafted the year before (with equally horrible QB going ahead of him)?
The scouts are trying to figure out not what a guy is but what he can be. Which is obviously an inexact science. Richardson's ceiling coming out was insanely high. The chances of him hitting it were low. They had maybe a one-in-ten chance of hitting on a guy who could break the NFL.

But it's not over yet. Richardson has started only 23 games in college and the pros. Purdy started literally twice that many just in college.

Thats a nice explanation but all i remember hearing is that Richardson had the physique of a QB which somehow made him a better prospect.

Dont trust rookies.
And now i dont trust scouts.

Been hearing this shit since HS. He had his moments at Florida but I kept watching and saying to myself, “ok what is all the hype about?”

Big arm, physical, uber athletic…couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat with a football. He can make that 70 yard throw to that speedster after blown coverage. He can run past defenders for a 50 yard TD. All that means little in the NFL.

His only TD was to a wide open Downs. He was nude.

Add in the fact, if he isn’t willing to learn and study film and/or change his mechanics or anything to improve…there is a great chance he will never amount to anything. Josh Allen’s scouting reports were probably identical but he worked his ass off and changed his mechanics. Very, very few can do the same

I didn't understand the hype when he came out.

Every draft there's QB like this, he was that guy last year. All that pundits raved over him because of his raw talent. I swear the only person I saw that was like "Wait a minute, he barely completed 50% of his passes in college. He's a project at best" was Tim Hasselbeck. Everyone else was like "cannon arm bro!"

Not that i am calling out wildturkey, but i have seen statements similar to this, like, forever.

In my view, there is an obvious disconnect when a scout says that a player has raw talent. Because for a player to get a scholarship and reach that level of competition, he already has to have raw talent.

The scouts' job (along with the interview process) is to determine if he is essentially coachable for the next level. Because raw talent alone wont get you anywhere. This is a process scouts and teams have not mastered at all with maybe the exception of a few GM's.

It wasn't Richardson's raw talent, it was his raw athleticism. Incredibly strong and agile, with crazy hops. And interviewed well.

There was a lot of "if he can just..." in the equation. I could see drafting him - but not #4 overall.

And i'm not suggesting he never should have been drafted either.

I forget what the name of the QB tests are called... but they need to administer a different kind of test. Maybe like a video game? Present them with a formation and give them options. Then repeat the formation and see if they recognize it. IDK

At the start of the process, I think we were all laughing at the idea of him going rd1 based on college tape. I'd hate to think the combine or the Colts desperation for a QB had a major influence.

I cant tell if youre mocking me.or not?

I'm serious, written tests and bench-presses should NOT be the basis for a QB in today's NFL.

They need to develop a video test to find the option WHERE to throw the ball. (Even if its out of bounds.)

Those commercials that display mathematical percentages and talk about analytics that can determine the odds of success of a play.... someone has to be smart enough to determine if a QB is more likely to run, take a sack, throw an INT or make the right reads. Cause they sure dont use preseason to gauge this either.

Even if they had that test, there would still be scouts that would say, "Yes he failed at every test we gave him, but the raw talent is there and we can teach him and make him better." They will always point to guys like Josh Allen. Anthony Richardon just completed his 9th full game as a starter and this is his stat line:

And this was Josh Allen's first two years in the league

I'm not saying at all that I agree with it, but every person that sees his "upside" is going to point to Josh Allen and think that he can have the same type of turnaround.

Well from a fantasy perspective that is completely freaking useless. All that does is lower the value of all the pass catchers in that offense.
Yeah, this makes no sense at all.
