The scouts are trying to figure out not what a guy is but what he can be. Which is obviously an inexact science. Richardson's ceiling coming out was insanely high. The chances of him hitting it were low. They had maybe a one-in-ten chance of hitting on a guy who could break the NFL.To me, it just puts into question the reliability of these scouting reports.
How does a guy like Richardson get drafted early in the first round, but a guy like Purdy nearly goes undrafted the year before (with equally horrible QB going ahead of him)?
But it's not over yet. Richardson has started only 23 games in college and the pros. Purdy started literally twice that many just in college.
