Also Gruden said that Grant was running a stop route.

A Little coach speak there to absolve blame. Grant was running a stop route, the question that begs is should he have been running a stop route. Im glad they arent playing the blame game in public, but my guess is some one got reemed on this in the film room. Its obvious Kirk and Grant were not on the same page in that play.

Either Gruden or Cooley don't have the facts correctly imagined.

1 Gruden clearly says that Grant was running a "Stop route" which is basically 8 or 9 yards and run back towards the QB/ LOS

Whereas:

2.Cooley says the play was a "8 yard Scout route" which is 8 yards and hard cut towards the sideline.

Gruden says stop route, and Grants body position makes it look like he was running that route. Maybe Kirk misunderstood, who knows? It's done time to move on!

As I said, coach speak and there was an obvious miscommunication some where. If Grant thought he was supposed to run a stop route, and KC had audible for a scout route, that right there would explain why the ball and the WR were in two different spots.

That's a great combo block Cali. Moses stood him up and Scherff knocked him on his A double scribble as the grown ups told me when I was young. Not to mentioned he helped on the tackle DT first before cleaning up on the DE. Great technique.

they scored the TD anyway so what did it matter ? you force them to score the TD to beat you while a FG doesnt

well dean most coaches would take a 3 point lead and running the clock down the call was one the majority of coaches would have made as i have shown in another thread

You can't see the difference between a 4 pt lead and an 8 pt lead?

Really?

This whole thing is comical at this point. The fans who mostly expected our Defense to get man handled by Ryan/Jones combos are now the guys most upset that we lost a close one, and those of us who expected a close game where we MIGHT eek out a win, but would ikely lose in a close one are now defending our support of the team and coach for a hell of a game.

Guys we just arent there yet. now dont get me wrong I think we will get there alot sooner than the 3 years some here were predicting. I think the rest of this season will be to evaluate a few more of the young guys and Kirk. If we come out of this season with no more really bad games ( see Giants game) and we continue to develop, Im fine with how ever else the season rolls.

If we come out and end up drafting Cook......

Oh don't get me wrong, I am encouraged by what I saw. Interesting how the defensive backs, even long shots signed recently, are playing well now that Raheem Moore is not their coach. But being OK with the effort does not mean I'm fine with poor coaching decisions. As posted earlier looks like Grudog agrees with Dean and I on that goal line series. Besides the WR screen a run on 2nd and goal from the 8 had no chance and was really stupid..

“That was awful,” a weary-looking Gruden said Monday, asked if he was happy with the third-and-goal call. “Probably too conservative.”

Redskins’ Gruden turns critique on himself, saying late play call was awful

IMO this team is ahead of schedule. The overall attitude of this team is light years ahead of last season. The line play on both sides is also much better than last season. They have several promising young players & I see no reason why this team won't accumulate a lot more young players over the next 2-3 years. You also have to factor in some key players missing during games due to injuries and other reasons. Will be nice to see at least some of these guys return.

I never expected this to be a playoff teams so I am definitely not disappointed. This is a young team so you should expect mistakes at this time - hopefully these disappear as the season progresses. One key thing will be how the ST progress over the course of the season. The kicker thus far appears much better & there may be some hope in the return game - time will tell.

Anyone who truly paid attention to the philosophy of SM & company would realize that this team is likely where it should be rt now & probably a little ahead of schedule. Anyone expecting a playoff team is delusional. HTTR

Shark - you really need to look at this from a 3rd perspective - that of a non-fan who objectively evaluates the Redskins. In that case there is no way that you can view the team as a failure. Just about everyone not bleeding Burgundy and Gold viewed this team as one of the worst in the NFL going into the season. Thus far they have been in every game but one & definitely appear better than last year.

Maybe I missed it but it looks like Shark is fine with the progression too. And to be clear so am I. Agreed this team is way ahead of where we were last year. And with SM there is no reason to think there won't be more Crowders in our future.

It is very easy to play Mon morning QB & evaluate decisions based on outcomes. This is also wrong in many cases. Consider last night's game. Tomlin went for it on 4th down & they won the game & he looks like a genius. What if they failed on the attempt? He would have been called out by lots of folks.

No way do I believe that the decision on the 2 pt conversion decided this game. A lot of things could have have developed much differently even if Gruden went for the traditional XP. People need to let this go already.

i see it as a one score game

LOL. I'm not wasting my lunch hour trying to explain how an 8 pt lead means worst case scenario is you are tied, and that requires a TD and a 2 Pt conversion, and a 4 pt lead means you lose with only a TD.

No - I am not taking exception to Shark's point of view. Rather - I am just asking to consider another viewpoint especially for those who get too wrapped up in a very narrow perspective on this team.

Agree. But then again I was onboard with the decision. Regarding the Pick 6 I'm pretty sure that throw was wide even if Grant does not fall. But he could have made the tackle.

i am saying so what ? you still need a td in either case and you have time to boot and as it happened it went down just that way

I assume you were kidding. If we finish poorly enough to draft Goff, it means we needed alot more than just a QB and also means we are onto our next new head coach.

Side note, nothing in this QB class even remotely impresses me.. that would include Goff.
