Well, the guy shows up to pitch so there's that.
Not saying these deals won't happen but it's another example of a writer finding his own facts, creating his own conversations with imaginary scenarios and coming up with a conclusion. He states that the Sox and Padres have had longstanding interest in these players. Since when does he know that?
The writer of that article isn't the writer of the original article saying those offers are on the table though. Ah but since it fits his narrative, it's a concluded truth.
I think these trade rumor stories are interesting but all of them are full of shit.
Sounds like he invented the story and has gone about proving that even to the point of saying Boras is throwing bait in the water.
Nightengale probably says, "I do a rumor this week and you do one next week. If we hit, we look good."
Well yeah but one should take responsibility for what is under the byline. If there wasn't news, spreading non-news is really just making the whole process more untenable. The writer of that article isn't the writer of the original article saying those offers are on the table though. He's just a secondary piece.

I must be dense. What’s the point?
He threw 203 innings. That's a lot of innings, really. Considering it was the NL.According to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez, the Astros' pursuit of Pirates starter Gerrit Cole is "picking up steam."
Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reported Monday that the Astros were engaged in talks with the Pirates about Cole and now it sounds like an agreement could be getting close. Sanchez says this momentum has built over "the past 24 hours." Cole struggled to a 4.26 ERA in 203 innings with the Bucs in 2017, but he had a 3.23 ERA in 579 1/3 innings between 2013-2016 and the 27-year-old right-hander is under contractual control through the 2019 season. He has also drawn trade interest this winter from the Yankees, Rangers, Twins, Brewers, and Orioles.
