One coach to me at NFL Owners meetings...looks like we're getting rid of extra points

I know it has been talked about the last couple season but it looks like it is finally a reality

This is in the category of "if it ain't broke, don't break it". Why do we need to change the extra point rules?

Good move.
Most boring play in sports. Next...get rid of kickers. let the real players decide games.

That's my problem with the elimination of XPs... that the next step seems to be to get rid of FGs... kickers responsibilities are dwindling... First, they move in the kickoffs, now they might take away the XPs...

I don't like the op at all. Going for two is part of making up ground. Turning a two possession game into a one possession game.

Why take that out?

I believe they will still be able to go for 2 if they'd like to. they are just ditching the extra pt

the only thing i can see is the following:

a TD gets you 7. you can sit on 7 or go for 2 and get 8 (i.e the FG is implied with the 7). you miss, you lose that pt and drop to 6.

If they are so inclined to make the post TD score more exciting, then there are other routes to take than just to eliminate the XP all together...

My favorite option is to make the kicker even more important, and let the team opt into how far of a FG they want to take for different assigned points... I get that this may get confusing, but sometimes fun is worth it, and it would bring more strategy into the game at the end of the game...

no thank you. fg kicking plays too big of a role in deciding games already

There is a pretty massive difference there. XPs are a certainty. FGs have a huge chance of missing.

The only problem I have with this is if it just means they fill the slot with another commercial.

The NFL isn't going to eliminate the extra point. It's just a tweet.

The only reason they even talk about tweaking the rule and making it a lot different than it is currently is to placate brain dead, idiot owners like Irsay who keep on bringing up these ridiculous proposals.

Eventually they will move back the XP attempt but that is all they will do.

All they are doing is keeping people from 3rd world countries like Cyprus and Argentina from playing real football.

Who gives a shit about the extra point? It is the most pointless play in sports.

TD = 7. Go for a conversion and make it, you get 8... Miss it, you get 6. I guess it would be called a one point conversion.

most boring play is the kickoff. so exciting watching the ball fly out of the end zone.

Getting rid of kickers would be idiotic. It would be like turning all the pieces in a chess game to pawns. There is a ton of strategy in the game of football that would be completely lost (and the sport much worse off for it) if they got rid of kickers.
