This thread has gotten a bit OT. It is about expanded playoffs and not about changing how the playoffs are to be seeded currently. I say no to this and their idea to push the playoffs into Monday night. It is really about money. If this were about a competition then the best teams would play regardless of who won a division. AFC vs NFC will be a thing of the past....only the best teams in the playoffs. The NFL will never do this ....no money in it.

Jerry wanted this earlier in the year so why am I not shocked. Best chance for the 8-8 Cowboys to get in.

Expanding the playoffs will mean certain teams will always barely make it in and then get subsequently knocked out. This is the trend I see in the NBA. The only issue will be the increased risk of injuries. Adding more playoffs teams = more injuries and more revenue. The level if parity will not increase.

Yea. the the Pats really EARNED a playoff spot in that cupcake division.

Damn right they did. If you're the third best team in your own division what claim do you have that you're the best team in football? And you still could have got a wild card spot if you'd actually earned it...

It better not. It is not remotely acceptable and Goodell needs murdered like he's doing to the game if he does.

Would you stop watching if it does? I dont care for it either, but it's inevitable at this point.

It's not inevitable until it happens.

Would I stop watching? No, but the quality of the league would substantially drop all the same.

Actually it's inevitable until it does happen. You can hope it doesn't, but I see the writing on the wall.

I could see this backfiring big time. this is the problem with the nba and nhl. too many teams making the playoffs hurts the regular season. right now the nfl's regular season is the best in sports.

This isn't inevitable. It is preventable if the league gives a tiny bit of a shit about the quality of their product.

They do care about the product, and the revenue that it generates. That is why its inevitable.

I don't like it either. But the fact of the matter is that its more profitable for them, so its coming.

The product is being watered down, while the desire for increased revenue is at an all time high. This league will inevitably take a hit in popularity in the near future and be relegated to second place behind MLB. No matter how bad it gets it will remain above the shitty NBA.

I don't think that's necessarily the case. A watered down product loses viewers. This could very easily move the NFL from the dominant league in the country to second tier, especially when you combine it with all the "safety" rules.

I agree with part I put in bold, but I still think it will remain #1 . As much as I hate the idea, I'm still going to keep watching and I think most fans will do the same.

I didn't mean it would be surpassed within the next year but if the trend keeps going the way it is, I'll grow tired of the product. I'm already getting there. You can't tackle anymore. It's turning into synchronized swimming. I know that's an exaggeration but it's really becoming touch football.
