Do you think its Possible for Europe to ever join the NHL? It really isnt that much long of a flight say Miami to Vancouver is New York to Moscow. Just thinking if the NHL would plan out a schedule like Baseball does, where there are mini series. Like if Rangers play someone in Europe for 3 games then they return back to New york for 3 games back to back. I dont know just thinking and trying to have some fun.

Sorry about the southwest/east teams:cool2:

I think one of the major problems with an idea like this is there are way too many unpredictable variables with multiple currencies and countries. In the 90's when the Canadian Dollar was worth far less than the American, teams were folding and heading south. Currency exchange and economic stability with multiple countries could cause some problems and make it difficult to determine if a city is a viable candidate or not.

yah even though every franchise now hedges currencies you look at what is going in in europe with soccer ... you have relegation and administration that "helps" make the financially struggling teams "go away" ... youd need a similar system for hockey

A euro tv deal would be massive though ... not initially ... but it could get there

I would look at more of an in-season world club tournament like a champions league (or Spengler cup on crack) to start before efforting a euro based division

It's just too much travel over the course of a regular season. The teams in Europe would be travelling too far outide of division games. If there was some kind of NHL/KHL merger where there were equal amounts of teams in each continental conference, and then the STanley Cup was played for by the best N. American team and the best European team, that I could see happening before the proposed plan in the OP.

Miami to Vancouver would be about 6 hours on a charter flight. New York to Moscow is 9. That's a pretty big difference.

And that doesn't even consider Vancouver to Moscow. Or LA to Moscow.

If they play in Moscow first then in LA, they could get in two games on the same day.

You can cut down on the travels if you played all your games at once. Hey you put euro team into the league you get more fans with more passionate fan base. IMO

That would be bad ass. I just don't know enough of the politics behind NHL/KHL relations.
