Rob Gronkowski had 10 TDs his rookie year. And he was a 2nd round pick.

Jace Amaro was a 2nd round pick as well. He didn't do much as a rookie...

Austin Seferian Jenkins was another recent 2nd round pick who didn't post Pro Bowl numbers as a rookie.

Troy Niklas, Tyler Eifert, Zach Ertz, Gavin Escobar, Vance McDonald, Coby Fleener, Kyle Rudolph, Lance Kendricks, and Jermaine Gresham were all drafted in the 1st or 2nd round since 2010 (when Gronk was drafted) and none of them came close to matching his production.

I'm thinking maybe he's not the best example to pick as to what to expect out of rookie TEs. I'm thinking the other 11 guys from that group might give us a more accurate idea than just the one All Pro caliber player would...

It's not that it's what I expect, rather showing how incredibly far Mayhew reached (again) for a TE. Ebron was drafted in the top 10 because the Lions see him as the next Graham/Gronk. Anything less than matching their production, and he will never live up to that top ten pick.

Says the people in charge of Mayhew's job security. You don't sell ownership on taking a guy in the top 10 then settle for average production.

I see. Can you use your direct contact with Martha and/or Bill Jr. to find out how serious this "mystery injury" that Jason Jones has is, and if he's expected to be ready to go in training camp?

With that kind of direct access to Lions ownership you really should be doing something more productive than posting on a message board...

If you think the Lions can survive with average production from their top picks, you're in for a rude awakening.

11-5 records vs bad teams one and outs in the playoffs won't save Mayhew's job forever.

Lol, I think an 11-5 record is going to save pretty much any GM's job, every and/or any given year. I'm not sure I can think of the last GM to get fired coming off an 11-5 season?

On on the 'Hoop... :L

Nothing to do at this point but to see what year two holds...

I'm with you on that.... But let me ask you... How would you feel if we just squeeze a few more jokes in real quick before the season starts?

Seems like we want to give excuses out to everyone - Stafford, Calvin, Ebron...all three need to have ELITE years to beat good teams and Win in the playoffs.

The D won't carry them this year like last year.

It comes back to what is deemed truly successful. 10 wins vs bad teams, loses piled up vs good ones. Barely grabbing the last seed then bouncing out in round 1. Is that really success? If Stafford can't improve on his 3-38 or whys ever it is vs winning teams, no, I don't expect this regime to last.

And if they miss the playoffs....
