I really think this played a part. He's not well liked, for many reasons I can understand, but when these situations happen you have to ignore who is involved in both sides. I know they want to consider history of course, but they should really attempt to forget who is involved. There will always be some unavoidable bias, it's human nature, and I get it, but just getting sick of the DoPS looking for any reason NOT to suspend guys in these instances. How was this hit any less ergregious than the others that have resulted in suspensions this postseason? I don't think I'd be as salty if they'd simply tossed him last night like they should have.

C'mon Pix, I gave you the perfect 'haters gonna hate' setup.

If Letang doesn't return to the game (i.e. Pens keep him out citing injury), I'm pretty damn sure Callahan gets a hearing. NHL has this all bass ackwards, look at the hit first to determine whether or not a hearing/suspension is warranted, then tack on additional punishment if the player is injured as a result of a hit. Instead, no apparent injury, hit couldn't have been that bad, no hearing.

/And I don't even like Letang all that much, but that hit could have ended his career.
Letang lover.

It's funny that they are so adamant to suspend headshots, but pushing someone, from behind, headfirst into the boards, is just a hockey play gone bad.

I think they're both just as dangerous, and the latter can lead to head trauma and a broken neck. I mean, Callahan placed his forearm in the back of Letang's head and drove it into the boards. Is that worse than Letang's hit on Johansen? It is arguably more dangerous and intentional than Orpik on Maatta.

Callahan not getting a suspension or a fine for the hit on Letang is pure bull.

Just because Letang didn't get hurt, nothing. Wow the NHL is starting to remind me of prize fighting back in the day, you just never know what the outcome will be, because of inconsistency and biases. EVERTHING about the ruling on the hit is ass backwards, getting these hits out of the game will ONLY happen when players are suspended for intent or appearance of intent. Callahan's arm was up and he drove it though the hit. :twitch:

I just don't get why the NHL preaches something, then completely botches a suspension in this case. :tsk:

The forearm part is so freaking dangerous. I mean, sooooooo dangeroussssss. Axial loading is when a significant force occurs directly down the spine, or axis, such as landing directly on the top of your head. When his neck is bent like that it is basically an axial load, similar to when a football runner dips their head and gets rammed into the top of the helmet. Axial load is the most common mechanism of injury for significant cervical spinal cord injury. He could have easily made him a paraplegic. Head shots are awful and need to be out of the game, but it's sincerely a higher risk for catastrophic injury with the Callahan play than the Orpik play.

It's so strange that in youth hockey, that's a zero tolerance 2 and a game. All youth jerseys under a certain age have a stop sign above the name. They are trying to train that hit out of kids from the start.

Yet at the pro level, it's somehow okay. Would have thought one game at least.

Victim blaming and justification that it's "just hockey". Meanwhile that has never been part of hockey...ever. Like, I hate fighting for my own reasons, but can at least get that there's the cultural excuse for it. Boarding has never been acceptable.

The NHL...Letang had it coming to him because he put himself in that position...Isn't there a Jodi Foster r*pe movie with the same premise????

Well Letang's skirt was pretty short.
Or was he lying on the ice like a broad? I forget which thread I'm in

Did you read that Trottier article from a few months back? I think it was the "Letter to my Younger Self". I was dying when he opened with a description of YouTube.

yes, that was a good read.
amazing how the game/world has changed.
it was not that long ago that every single opponent was a 'faggot' or a 'pussy'. often both.

You may be referring to Tundo the Boltard.
Different character.

My favorite with Tundo, and I'm probably screwing it up because it's been 10 years or so, was someone was calling him fat and gay (avs419, rjmont?) and to prove he was neither he posted a picture of himself in his profile. DevilishWon was not participating but saw the picture and responded something like "I believe you that you are not fat or gay, but in the picture you chose to show you that youre not; you kind of look both fat and gay"

I'd be surprised if he plays (Tampa already has earned at least a split in Pittsburgh)

In pgh it sure was

It shouldn't be. Flower has not played in over a month and you can not expect him to just come into a high pressure situation and preform at top notch level. If it was the regular season, yes you give Flower a game to see. But not in the playoffs.

To an extent I agree, but as a pro, and Stanley cup winner, and the theoretical #1 goalie, he should have in his make up to come in and go
