There is some advantage now to drafting a quality RB. All draftees are subject to the rookie wage scale. The shelf life of a RB is not as long as the average NFL player so you get the early years of a RB early for cheap money. Then you move on from them.

Obviously, special RBs such as Gurley, Zeke, Bell, Barkley, etc break that mold but the Pats did just fine letting a guy like Dion Lewis go.

He wasn’t drafted by the Patriots.

Maybe, they're looking at Zeke and Barkley and see the 4 down RB has a place on the field. A good full time RB may help to keep Wentz upright.
There's no Zeke or Saquon in this draft . Shit there isnt even an Ajayi in this draft

I would be surprised if they took a RB in the first round, though they are said to really like Josh Jacobs. Second round though? I could see it. David Montgomery is who I expect them to take.
Montgomery is better than Jacobs anyway

I wouldn't know as I haven't looked that close, just giving a possible reason as to why they might be looking at a RB.

Why? Yes they had ajayi, yes they dont have a true good back. But even when they do, they utilize a three back system. Why waste a high draft pick on someone in a rotation

They're not looking for a good back, they're looking for a high back - they should call Ricky Wiliiams.....

This RB draft is embarrassing. You might see one guy go in the top 50. Maybe 2-3.

The last couple RB classes aren't the norm. 2 or 3 RBs in the top 50 is pretty average.

And the Ravens won with Joe Flacco. What's your point? The Eagles need some offensive line help, Wentz is appearing to be somewhat fragile, and Peters is not going to be around forever and plays a premium position.

Roy I swear... you're like the guy winning a case in court against someone, the Judge mentions the verdict (in your favor), and you're like, "Well technically..." and then can't figure out why everyone is annoyed.

I understand how somebody pointing out where you're wrong can be annoying...

I would think the only time you draft a RB in the 1st is if he is a 3 down back that only comes out for a rest. if you are team using a RBBC it would be hard to use a 1st on a RB I would think.

I'm not sure that the Eagles are intent on using an RBBC, but I think that's just what they've had available. It wouldn't appear that there's a true 3D back in this draft, but I think there are guys that can come in and be a starter, as soon as day 1.

Oh most likely, yes. I think Jacobs is the only one going in the first, so they're going to be in great shape to pick someone up there. However, if they have their eye on anyone in particular, it may require a trade up, as I could see a run on RBs in the top half of the 2nd round. Teams like the Colts, Bucs, Raiders, and Bills could be looking at the first 8 picks in the 2nd as a spot to grab their guy.

Nope they wont have to trade up cause when all the dust settles it will be Sanders from PSU still there and the get their big back that has a lot of tread left.

Don't think the Eagles are taking RB early now. They just traded for RB Howard from the Bears for a 2020 conditional sixth round pick. Love this move. Like I said somewhere else, my gut will be taking a top DT or Edge in first round. Wouldn't shock me if they trade to move up and grab Oliver.
