There is some advantage now to drafting a quality RB. All draftees are subject to the rookie wage scale. The shelf life of a RB is not as long as the average NFL player so you get the early years of a RB early for cheap money. Then you move on from them.
Obviously, special RBs such as Gurley, Zeke, Bell, Barkley, etc break that mold but the Pats did just fine letting a guy like Dion Lewis go.
He wasn’t drafted by the Patriots.
