he gets you to the playoffs though :/

it's like taking your hot cousin to the prom. she goes to another school, and the cool kids are jealous, and she stays quiet about it for 100$ .

in 2011 the starting qbs were rated by arm strength by a writer on nfl.com
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...h-of-all-32-nfl-starting-quarterbacks/page/33

Andy Dalton was #31, just ahead of Christian Ponder. Dalton is in a precision based offense, only... his precision is highly inconsistent. Jeff Blake used to huck and chuck a lot to his star receivers, he still got the boot. AJ McCarron may not be the answer either, but he does have a hot wife.

Will the Bengals have the balls to move on from a QB that has them going to the playoffs every year?

doubtful.

so the reason we're still talking about Dalton, unfortunately, is Mikey Brown.

unless a QB falls into our lap in the draft, we're pretty much stuck.

Looking at last night's season finale a few positions in need of an upgrade were apparent when compared to the AFC North Champions Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers speed and depth at wide receiver with Markus Wheaton and Martavis Bryant were obvious and should be emulated by the Bengals. And though Mohammad Sanu and Marvin Jones are excellent players, neither are the burner needed to scare a defense like the ones the Steelers have. Our lack of a consistent pass rush was also on display last night as Rothlisberger was barely touched all night and was able to stand in the pocket and pick our defense apart. Another position that can be addressed, but isn't in need of an immediate upgrade, is depth along the O-line. With that being said here are a list of players I would like to see the Bengals target in this year's draft.

Defensive Ends/Pass rushers
1. Bud Dupree DE/OLB 6'3⅝" 268 Kentucky
2. Dante Fowler Jr. DE 6'2½" 271 Florida
3. Vic Beasley DE 6'2⅞" 220 Clemson
4. Shilique Calhoun* DE 6'4" 257 Michigan State

Defensive Tackles
1. Danny Shelton DT 6'1⅞" 332 Washington (likely drafted before Bengals spot)
2. Eddie Goldman DT 6'3½" 315 Florida State (likely drafted before Bengals spot)
3. Malcom Brown DT 6'3½" 317 Texas
4. Mike Bennett DT 6'2¼" 286 Ohio State

Wide Reciever
1. Rashad Greene WR 5'11½" 175 Florida State
2. Nelson Agholor WR 6'0" 185 USC
3. Phillip Dorsett WR 5'10" 182 Miami (FL)
4. Tyler Lockett WR 5'9⅝" 175 Kansas State

Offensive Linemen
1. Jarvis Harrison OG 6'3¾" 325 Texas A&M
2. Tre Jackson OG 6'3⅝" 337 Florida State
3. Daryl Williams OT 6'5¼" 330 Oklahoma
4. Corey Robinson OT 6'7¾" 340 South Carolina

I would love to get any of the first 3 DE's you listed but there is next to zero chance any of them fall to us. All 3 might be top 10 picks. Calhoun is a possibility and I wouldn't be upset with him at all. I don't think a DT makes enough of an impact to take one in the first on this team. We need pass rushers too bad. I like all of those receivers and all might be able to be had in the 3rd round. This is a ridiculously deep WR draft again. Also don't think we need to go OL early at all. Sure we can take one later in the draft. Early isn't needed.

right, don't forget rookie WRs generally end up on the bench, especially here. Julio Jones (ATL) and AJG (CIN) got special treatment do to their athletic ability. That doesn't generally happen.

We aren't taking a WR early. They will see if Jones can come back and be the #2 like he looked like he would be last year.

I bet they look WR at some point. We have Green, Jones, and Sanu, and who knows if Jones will be the WR he was a year ago. After that, we have nothing. One injury at WR and the season is derailed at WR again.

I guarantee we look at WR anywhere between rounds 2-5.

I'd love what you are smoking. We will roll into the season with Green, Jones, Sanu, likely Tate, Wright, maybe Cobi. They may take one in the 5th or 6th, but we have to many other glaring needs to take a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I am not even sure what you are smoking, because you are out of your damn mind if you don't think we take a WR in rounds 2-5 or address it in FA. We need a solid #2 type of WR to pair with Green, Sanu, Jones in case of injury or suckage again. They have no idea if Jones will come back healthy enough to play, or even know if he can come back and play at the level he had before the injury. It has been a full year.

They have plenty of holes, and I can guarantee you, they fill most needs through FA (as middle tier players) so they do not have to draft for need.

When was the last time the Bengals had a draft that looked like they were drafting based on need? I can't even remember. We will take best available player unless it is at a position of sheer strength and numbers.

WR is definitely NOT one of those.

Ok captain. WR ranks somewhere about 7th or 8th on the list of needs on this team.

I would rank it 3rd.

#1 - DE
#2 - LB
#3 - WR
#4 - QB
#5 - TE
#6 - DT
#7 - OG
#8 - OT
#9 - OC
#10 - CB
#11 - RB

Then I'm glad you aren't building this team. WR isn't that big of a need. Pass rush, multiple linebackers, a DT, another CB, TE all hugely bigger needs.

We need a pass rusher and a QB. Plain and simple. Everything else is a secondary need. We lost because we have neither. It's clear as day.

WR comes after 2 DE's, 2 LB'ers, 2 DT's, a CB, a TE, a QB, OL depth.

We are resigning Maualuga, we have Burfict and Lamur. We need a solid backup to pair with Rey though.

Brandon Thompson needs elevated to #2 DT besides Atkins instead of Peko, that will solve some of that suckage.

We need a really good DE to pair with Dunlap and Gilberry can go back to being the rotational DE/DT which improves the DL immediately.

We will not let Hall go, because we are going to let Newman go. So we will have all the same players back except Newman, and I think he was the worst of the bunch. Dennard needs to get more damn snaps. Between Jones, Hall, Dennard, Kirkpatrick....CB is not a major need but it could have a little depth added to it.

QB is a legit concern, but you know they are going to go down with the ship. Coaches will use all the injuries, etc as excuses to give Dalton a legit shot again next year.

TE could be a concern with Eifert being injured all t he time and Gresham maybe being gone. However, I see them offering Gresham, Maualuga new contracts, and Green's 5th year option being picked up, then the franchise tags start to come.

I think our Oline is pretty decent, but could use a little depth as Tits last year is next year and Whitworth is getting long in the tooth.

WR is actually a major concern in my book. We have a couple holes needed first, but WR ranks right up there.

We have to have a stud DE though, and elevate Thompson and that solves a lot of issues in itself. When opposing offenses have to stop doubling Dunlap and Atkins, then everyone becomes better.

1. Maulauga is bad. He doesn't play the run well and is worse against the pass. He needs to be released. Lamur isn't any better. If he is starting it's not good. Rey has proven he can't start and Flowers is meh. Burfict is always hurt, no reason so think we can depend on him. We need to take a linebacker early, probably 2 honestly.

2. Brandon Thompson is a decent run blocker but gives little pass rush. He is a rotational guy and shouldn't be starting. Peko needs cut. We need another legit DT brought in to help with the run and pass rush.

3. Even if we keep Hall, his age and lack of speed make him nothing more than a slot CB at best and still leaves us with only 4 guys. We need another CB in the mid rounds to keep talent and depth. CB depth more important to a team than WR depth. We also severely lack speed at CB. We have to get a speed guy who can cover speed WRs because we don't have one.

4. QB is honestly the biggest concern on the team but we aren't taking one early. Might as well move on.

5. TE is a bigger need than WR too. Eifert keeps getting hurt and we don't even know if Gresham will want to come back. Someone will pay him as much if not more than us and honestly why would he come back to a place that hates him?

6. OL is decent, but Whit is old, Tits is always hurt, we have to plan for the future. We need an OT fairly early too. Wouldn't be surprised if they took an OT in the 1st round at all.

7. DE IMO is the biggest need on the team after QB and we have to take one early and quite honestly I'd take 2. We have to get to the quarterback and if we can't our defense will never hold up.

8. WR need isn't that huge. Green will be back as will Sanu. Jones is coming off injury and no we don't know what he will be, but he was a huge impact player when he was healthy and there have been no reports to suggest he won't be healthy next year. Tate will likely be back because they love him. Wright played well when given the chance. Sanz may also be back. I think it's a lot more likely we sign someone in FA than draft one early.

DT/DE/OL are top 3 priorities, with DE/DT being the top 2

TE/LB

Only way I can be ok with a WR that early is if we get multiple early comp picks.
