Hjelle gave up 3 runs in 6 innings today. That's damn near a shutout in the PCL!

One of the very few (only?) positive performances by the River Cats staff.

Just as it is hard to take the pitching stats of AA (the former Eastern League) seriously, it is also hard to take the inflated pitching stats of AAA West (formerly the Pacific Coast League) seriously. When looking at the River Kitties pitchers, their ERA's suggest that most of them should quit baseball and go work for K-Mart.

Still, Castro has had a good, even exceptional season, in AAA at a young age.

Now, there, see, I just jinxed him to give up 4 runs in 1/3 inning in his next appearance.

Considering his start of the season was rocky, his performance since then is even more impressive.

His ERA in May was 6.00 in 9 innings

June = 2.00 in 9 innings

July = 3.00 in 15 innings

August = 1.50 in 6 innings

His appearances have been pretty well spaced. Usually it is four days between appearances, though it has been as long as a week, and as short as three days.

I found it interesting that he was anywhere about high A ball to start the season. He never pitched above short A ball prior to this year and was quite the successful starter. I wished they kept him as a starter but glad he is finding success in AAA at only 22 years old.
