Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats WON 4-3 (35-44)

Chase d'Arnaud 1-3, HR (11th), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB (15th)
Steven Duggar 1-5, HR (4th), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K

d'Arnaud was named to the All-Star game, very well deserved.

Oppo-taco for Duggar

Matt Gage 6.0-6-2-2-2-4
Josh Osich 1.0-2-1-1-0-1
Derek Law 1.0-0-0-0-0-1
Ray Black 1.0-0-0-0-0-1

IDK why this is so odd to me, but each guy's name is between 3-5 letters.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels WON 5-4 (39-37)

Aramis Garcia 2-3, 2 HR (5th and 6th), 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB
Luigi Rodriguez 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB (13th)

Holy cow did Garcia need a game like this. He's had a pretty brutal year. He is having a nice June, though, batting .284/.333/.463 and a 121 wRC+

Conner Menez 5.1-10-4-4-2-7
Carlos Diaz 1.2-0-0-0-0-0
Caleb Simpson 1.2-1-0-0-0-2
Dan Slania 0.1-0-0-0-0-0

A+: San Jose Giants lost 8-6 (36-41)

Heath Quinn 2-4, HR (6th), 1 RBI, 2 R, 1 K
Gio Brusa 2-4, 2B, 1 R, 2 K
Jacob Heyward 1-2, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 2 BB

Mac Marshall 1.1-0-1-0-3-1
Jeff Burke 2.2-4-3-1-1-0
DJ Myers 1.0-2-0-0-0-1
Nolan Riggs 2.1-4-4-3-2-3
Rodolfo Martinez 1.2-2-0-0-1-2

Tough break for Marshall who just returned from an injury a week ago and had to leave this one after some sort of leg injury. The defense was just awful with 5 errors.

A: Augusta GreenJackets WON 6-5 (40-35) (this game was suspended and completed on Thursday)

Heliot Ramos 1-5, HR (6th), 2 RBI, 1 R, 2 K
Orlando Garcia 3-3, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB (7th)

This is quite possibly the crudest homerun video I've posted, but when Augusta builds a brand new ballpark and doesn't include video camera setups, this is what we have to live with.

Garrett Cave 4.0-1-0-0-2-5
Franklin Van Gurp 2.2-4-5-5-3-3
Olbis Parra 2.1-0-0-0-0-2

Giants are going to stick with Cave in the rotation for as long as they can, and he's done okay, but he really profiles as a top-notch reliever with a nasty fastball.

A-: Salem-Keizer Volcanoes WON 9-4 (9-4)

Nico Giarratano 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 error (2nd)
Mikey Edie 3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Robinson Medrano 2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Diego Rincones 3-5, 2 2B, 1 R

Norwith Gudino 6.0-5-2-0-0-7
Orleny Quiroz 1.1-1-1-0-0-1
Doug Still 1.2-4-1-1-0-2

Gudino has a 18-0 K-BB ratio this year

Rookie: DSL Giants WON 9-0 (13-8)

Jean Pena 3-5, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 K
Robinson Batista 2-4, 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Jose Peralta 2-4, 2B, 3B, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Peralta is just 16 years old.

Juan Sanchez 5.0-0-0-0-1-4
Luis Montero 2.0-1-0-0-2-1
Willian Suarez 1.0-0-0-0-0-1
Jose Cruz 1.0-0-0-0-0-1

Extremely impressive performance for the mini-Giants, just one hit and five total baserunners (3 BBs, 1 HBP). That also makes two starters in the DSL with no-hit outings (Ivan Armstrong).

Rookie: AZL Giants Black lost 2-1 (2-6)

Franklin Labour 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K.

While the DSL Giants 1-hit their opponent, the AZL Giants Black were 1-hit

Johan Herrera 2.0-2-0-0-0-2
Jerson Severino 4.0-2-0-0-3-2
Jose Maita 1.0-1-0-0-0-1
Ben Strahm 1.0-1-0-0-0-0
Travis Perry 1.0-4-2-2-0-1

The interesting part about being 1-hit is that the team actually had a chance to win 1-0, but they blew it in the 9th.

Rookie: AZL Giants Orange lost 4-1 (4-4)

The Orange were 3-hit. Just no offense is Arizona tonight, something must have been up with the weather.

Marco Gonzalez 4.0-5-4-1-2-3
Sam Wolff 1.0-1-0-0-1-1
JJ Santa Cruz 2.0-1-0-0-2-1 (what a name)
Ryan Walker 1.0-1-0-0-0-3
JJ Santa Cruz, a product of Fresno St (NDFA)! Hopefully, he becomes a feel good story. Undrafted pitcher makes the big leagues. I know the odds are slim.

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats lost 3-1 (35-45)

Steven Duggar 1-4, 2B, 1 R
Myles Schroder 2-3, 2B

Daniel Camarena 5.0-6-1-1-1-4
Tyler Beede 1.0-0-0-0-0-1
Mike Connolly 2.0-3-2-2-0-2

That makes four straight scoreless appearances and three straight without walking anyone. This was a tight 12-pitch, 1-2-3 inning. Too small of a sample to get excited about anything, but

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels lost 4-1 (39-38)

Matt Lipka 1-3, 3B, 1 K
Jonah Arenado 1-3, 1 RBI
Luigi Rodriguez 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 pick-off

Chase Johnson 3.0-2-0-0-0-2
Garrett Williams 1.0-3-2-2-0-0
Connor Overton 3.0-3-2-2-0-4
Patrick Ruotolo 1.0-0-0-0-0-3

Williams coming out of the Pen is unexpected. Could possibly have been a piggy-back situation, or (like Beede) a shift to the Pen. We'll see. He hasn't been very good, especially with his command.

A+: San Jose Giants WON 6-1 (37-41)

Jalen Miller 3-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 error (12th)
Bryce Johnson 3-4, 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Heath Quinn 3-4, HR (7th), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB

If Quinn can stay healthy, he might be on track for a AA promotion for the second half.

Raffi Vizcaino 5.0-4-1-1-5-4
Peter Lannoo 3.0-2-0-0-0-1
Frank Rubio 1.0-1-0-0-0-0

Camilo Doval 1.0-1-0-0-0-2

A-: Salem-Keizer Volcanoes WON 7-3 (10-4)

Kyle McPherson 2-4, HR (1st), 2 RBI, 2 R
David Villar 2-4, HR (1st), 2 RBI, 1 R
Robinson Medrano 1-3, HR (4th), 1 RBI, 2 R
Wander Franco 2-4, 2B, 1 RBI

Villar hits his first homer in Salem and it was apparently no cheapy. This year's 11th round pick has intriguing power potential and could be someone to watch going forward.

Keaton Winn 2.0-1-0-0-1-3
Greg Jacknewitz 5.0-2-2-1-2-5
Matt Frisbee 1.0-0-1-0-2-3
Jesus Tona 1.0-1-0-0-1-1

Giants are easing Winn into things so far. Looks good. (5th rounder this year)

Rookie: DSL Giants lost 8-6 (13-9)

Richgelon Juliana 3-4, 2 HR (1st and 2nd), 4 RBI, 3 R, 1 K, 1 assist

Freddery Paulino 5.0-5-2-2-0-2
Samuel Quintana 2.0-3-2-1-2-1

Everyone and their grandmothers had hits for Richmond today.

Jake McCasland 4.0-6-3-3-2-4
Ryan Halstead 2.0-3-1-0-0-3
Sam Wolff 1.0-0-0-0-0-2
Carlos Diaz 1.0-1-2-2-1-0
Dillon McNamara 1.0-1-0-0-0-1

Well look who got promoted to AA right under my nose. Wolff, half of the return the Giants got for Matt Moore, has been throwing darts so far. Now he's right on the cusp of the big leagues. Hard thrower.

A+: San Jose Giants WON 3-1 (38-41)

Bryce Johnson 3-5, 2B, 3B, 1 R
John Riley 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K

Man, Jason Bahr may not stay long at San Jose, either. He moved up from Augusta, and hasn't allowed a run yet in San Jose. (SSS)

In two starts in San Jose, he's thrown 12 innings, 7 hits, no runs, 1 walk, 10 K's.

Round 5, 2017

Looks very solid.

Ray Black 1.0-1-0-0-0-3

Ray fucking Black. His last 9 games: 9 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 13 K's 0 (ZERO!) BB's. He pitched back-to-back days in that span as well (once). Call him up, please!

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels WON 4-3 (41-38)

Aramis Garcia 2-4, HR (7th), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K
Ali Castillo 2-5, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R

Shaun Anderson 7.0-6-3-3-0-5
Dillon McNamara 1.0-1-0-0-0-0
Patrick Ruotolo 1.0-1-0-0-0-2

Weird line for Anderson. Gave up three solo homers, but was sharp otherwise. Ruotolo, another guy to watch.

More exciting news on the pitching side. Bahr has been terrific in two CAL League starts. Projects as a solid 4th starter.

Heck of a performance from Nurse, a 37th rounder from last year who was a surprise signing.

Down on the farm: Giants go big in the international...

Following a June draft when they had the second overall pick, the Giants added more significant talent to their farm system on Monday, inking three of the top international prospects available in this year’s “July 2nd” international amateur signing period. According to MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez, the Giants have agreements with Dominican shortstop Marco Luciano, Venezuelan outfielder Luis Matos and Cuban center fielder Jairo Pomares.

Luciano was ranked by Baseball America, MLB.com and FanGraphs as the No. 2 prospect in this July 2nd class. He is the most highly regarded international signing for the Giants since they inked Lucius Fox in 2015. The Giants were in the international bonus pool penalty from the Fox signing until this season, which meant they weren’t allowed to offer international amateur free agents bonuses of more than $300,000.

So Luciano probably gets slotted in as our #3 right now behind Bart and Ramos, but it looks like he may actually have the top ceiling of the three. I just like to let International amateurs settle in a bit and show it before we slobber all over them.

I think I would put Matos somewhere around the #10 prospect range. He looks like he projects out to a good #4 OFer, but with room to improve to a solid starter type (unlikely to be an alł-star).

Luciano has the best power potential in the system now, I'd say. There's no ceiling, especially if he stays at SS.

I found this quote interesting from Jesse Sanchez:

"Giants are one of the most respected organizations in international circles. They have had some tough luck lately, but continue to grind"

This definitely backs up what I've heard. The Giants are very popular internationally. They opened a brand new facility in the Dominican Republic and Felipe Alou has been an incredible ambassador. Apparently they treat the kids really well, which in an area that's rampant with exploitation of these kids definitely sticks out.

So, in your opinion, who is 1-2-3 and in what order?

More power than Shaw??

So, in your opinion, who is 1-2-3 and in what order?

Yeah, I'd say so. Not right now (obv.), but it's closer than you would think for a 16 year old kid. Lightning quick bat speed and he's really strong (and growing quick).

It's so tough to say because they're all over the board in terms of their development cycles, but I'd probably say Bart-Luciano-Ramos, and that's me favoring upside a bit.

Also, how cool is it that the top-3 prospects for the Giants are up the middle players? And they all are plus power guys. Real exciting.
