Single-Season Leaders &amp Records for Errors Committed | Baseball-Reference.com

122 by Herman Long in 1889

Most errors committed in a career:

Herman Long, 1889-1904 (1,096)

Yes, he was a shortstop. And yes, gloves were smaller then. But Herman Long managed to commit 1,096 errors while playing just 1,875 games. That’s amazing. It’s an average of more than one error every other day.

Major League Baseball's 14 Most Bizarre Records You've Never Heard of
Pre turn of the century MLB was little more than a glorified beer league, I think.

Things were very different back then. Have you read some of the rules from the late 1800s?
SB, for example, were completely different. If a runner went from 1st to 3rd on a single, we was credited with a SB.

I think one of crazier things was that a fielder could nail the runner with the ball in between bases and the run was considered (probably sometimes in more ways than one).

Arroyo hit the walk-off in the 10th inning. Kid is a stud.

Good to see Reynolds break out of his 0-15 slump in style.

I think SFGRTB has the minors reporting this week.

I went to the Rivercats game, cold and windy (though not Chicago cold and windy).

Excited to see Beede and Arroyo. Whoops! Excited to see Beede.

He held Las Vegas scoreless through four innings, hitting 94 on the gun, and throwing well.

The wheels fell off in the 5th. A leadoff homer to the catcher, a single by the pitcher, an error by Hwang on a sure double play ball, and then Vegas scored 5 runs and Beede was out.

Hwang hit well, and played good D at 3rd except for the error.

Slater was 3-4 and stung the ball in each AB.

Morse had a nice easy RBI single

Ryder Jones had two hits, including a triple that almost went out to CF. He crushed that ball.

Crick gave up the losing run, giving up three hits and a walk in 1.2 innings. Well, actually Sitton allowed the inherited runner to score. But Crick threw really well.

Too bad Sacto couldn't hold the 5-0 early lead. The box score says 4,385 in attendance. They were off by a magnitude of at least 5, and perhaps 10. If there were 1,000 peple at the park, I'd be very surprised. But maybe it is the tickets sold deal.

And good for Arroyo for leading the Giants to victory over the Dogs. Welcome to the majors, kid. May your stay be long and prosperous!

Yeah I'll jump on it tomorrow morning. Just got off work (2 am my time).

I've heard that stadium fills up quite nicely on the weekends, I've never been myself though.

Ryder Jones has had a very nice start to the year himself. He was drafted the same class as Arroyo, and has played along side him for much of their minor league careers. He's still a prospect, HUGE person in real life.

Pitching line is IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

Sacramento Rivercats AAA lost 7-6 (6-12)

Kelby Tomlinson 1-3, 2 BB, 2 R, SB (3rd). Played 2B
Jae-Gyun Hwang 2-5, 2B, 1 R, 3 RBI, FE (5th). Played 3B
Ryder Jones 2-4, 3B, 1 RBI, 1 R. Played 1B. He has a 1.021 OPS through 9 games so far.
Austin Slater 3-4, 2B, 1 RBI, SB (1st). Played CF

Tyler Beede
4.1-8-5-3-3-3 (4.29 ERA)
Kyle Crick 1.2-3-2-2-1-3 (3.18 ERA). First game back from concussion DL. Wasn't serious. That was actually his first walk of the season, and has an 8-1 K/BB ratio in 5+ innings.

Beede wasn't his sharpest self tonight, but as Stokes alluded to, it wasn't his worst either.

Here's some Beedah

Fun fact, Tyler Pill started this game for Las Vegas. Tyler Pill is the younger brother to Brett.

Richmond Flying Squirrels AA was postponed (6-10)

:rain:

San Jose Giants A+ lost 10-2 (9-9)

Jose Vizciano Jr. 2-4, HR (1st), 1 R, 2 RBI. Played 1B
Jonah Aredano 2-4, 2B, 1 R, TE (3rd). Played 3B.

Shield your eyes. Matt Krook 3.0-7-9-8-3-5 (15.58 ERA). It's been a tough go in the Cal League so far for Krook. Tonight, he had his good stuff but was leaving it up in the zone all night and was getting crushed. Patience.
Carlos Diaz 2.0-0-0-0-2-5 (2.57 ERA). Diaz has been a bright spot in the Pen so far. Was the Cal League pitcher of the week last week. Fastball 89-93, slider 80-83.

Augusta Greenjackets low-A won 2-1 by scoring in the 9th and 10th innings (7-11)

Jacob Heyward 2-4, 2B

Stephen Woods 5.2-1-1-0-5-5 (2.16 ERA). Wish I could give more info on Woods, but I don't have any at this time. He's had a nice start so far. 2016 draftee.

Ashford Fulmer 2-5, 3B, 1 R, 1 RBI

Jacob Heyward 1-3, 2B, BB, 2 RBI, 1 R
Will Albertson 1-3, HR (1), 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB

So (@LHG, this one's for you), Beltre crushed a homerun and he admired it a bit to the offense of Lexington catcher Nick Dini. Dini took matters into his own hands and bumped into Beltre as he crossed home and Beltre took a swing back. Benches cleared and so forth. Beltre, Dini and Frandy De La Rosa were all ejected.

Sacramento River Cats
AAA won 11-1 (7-12)

Orlando Calixte 4-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, picked-off. Played 2B
Mac Williamson 3-4, Grand Slam, 5 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Played LF
Jae-Gyun Hwang 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Played 3B
Fed-X 3-5, 1 R

Joan Gregorio 7.0-4-1-1-3-5 (2.42 ERA)
Tyler Rogers 2.0-1-0-0-0-2 (2.25 ERA)

Gregorio was pretty dominant with his fastball and slider. The big swing of the bat came off of Mac Williamson.

Richmond Flying Squirrels AA won 2-1 (7-10), scoring 2 runs on the bottom of the 9th

Carlos Garcia 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 SB (3), 1 K. And the game winner.
Hunter Cole 2-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R
Dylan Davis 0-4, 1 R. Notable as this was his first game of the year, debuting at 3rd base.

Garcia walk-off

Matt Gage 4.2-10-1-1-1-3 (3.00 ERA)
Carlos Alvarado 0.2-0-0-0-1-2 (1.17 ERA). You may remember him from Spring Training. Has an 18-3 K-BB ratio in 7.2 innings, and had a 37-1 K-BB ratio in 31 innings last year. He's 27 years old. Late bloomer?
Jordan Johnson 4.0-2-0-0-2-5 (2.25 ERA). Not sure how they are handling Jordan so far. Has 2 starts sandwiched between 2 relief appearances. Had his good stuff today.

San Jose Giants A+ lost 9-1 (9-10)

Bryan Reynolds 3-4, 1 K

Thanks SFGRTB!

In regards to Carlos Alvarado, I'm never understood why the Giants have brought him along so slowly. He started out in the Tigers organization in 2009 and pitched three years in the Dominican summer league. His numbers were good the last two years there and then the Giants somehow acquired him. So what do they do? Send him back to the Dominican summer league for a 4th year in a row. He posted good numbers again and finally gets a chance state-side in 2013, at the age of 23. He could have probably handled short A ball but he was sent to the AZL, where he, again, did well. The org finally jumped him a notch in 2014 to Augusta. He pitched well and got a late season promotion to AA, where he got knocked around a bit. The logical choice for his assignment in 2015 would have been SJ or Richmond, so where does he land? Augusta again. He spent a good portion of that season injured, and his numbers showed that he wasn't at his best. He spent most of 2015 injured as well but when he did pitch it was at SK and Augusta before going back to Richmond, where he did well. He's been doing what he needs to do but for whatever reason the org moves him very slowly. Seems that they don't like what they see, despite how well he does.

Remember Daryl Maday? He was a pitcher who put up good numbers, and got some love from us, but never got more than light exposure to AAA. I think just because a guy has good numbers does not necisarily mean anyone believes he will be able to duplicate that at a higher level.

Forjet was another guy who kinda fit that bill. IIRC, he threw a no-no in one of his first ever pro appearances, but I don think think he ever got above A ball.

I think both are different. Maday got to AA by his 2nd pro season (never went back to A ball) and really struggled in the upper minors. His best season at AA or above was his 2nd to last season but he got shelled when he went back to AAA his last year.
Forjet, too, is different. He was at high A his first full season but did get yanked all the way to short A his 2nd year. His 2nd go around at high A was good and was sent back to high A for a 3rd year, where he got slammed. I think he is still in the org, actually, at least I haven't seen anything about him retiring or being released.
Alvarado's numbers have been before than either. I think the closest comparison is Jose Casilla. He languished for years at AA, but even then, he got there faster and he had more stumbles than Alvarado.

Maybe he had Visa issues coming over to the states.
