Jarrett Parker, who will be called up on Wednesday (the final possible day)
Parker is one rehab. They cannot just replace him with someone else. He essentially creates an extra roster spot. However, I wonder if the rules have changed for AAA because it seems the RiverCats have been carrying 26 to 27 players this whole month (not counting rehab players).

I've only seen Heathcott, Garrett Williams and now Garcia. Are there others that I've missed?
Is that all? I haven't tracked them, but I thought I have seen a lot of notifications. Maybe not...

Apparently, the Jack Conlon signing fell through, and he is now fielding offers from approx 20 teams. It does not sound like he failed the physical, but just that he is still available.

This is the second time in recent memory that something like this has happened to the Giants. WTF? It looks REAL bad on the org.

Ramos' hit streak came to an end yesterday.

Santos made his Giants debut yesterday for their DSL team. He went 4 innings with 6 hits, 1 walk, 5 K and 1 ER. This kid is WAY off, but it is nice to see him have a somewhat successful debut. Realistically, though, he would hardly rate on a prospect list at this point. If he hadn't just come over in a trade, he would not be radar-worthy, I don't think.

Why does this make the Giants look bad? And who was the other, I don't recall.

Tuesday 8/1

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

Sacramento River Cats (AAA) WON 6-0

Chris Shaw 2-4, HR (11th in AAA, 17th overall), 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 K.
Pablo Sandoval 1-4, HR (1), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K.
Ryder Jones 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 K.
Jarrett Parker 0-2, 2 BB, 1 R. Last day in AAA.

Andrew Suarez 7.0-5-0-0-2-6. Dominating performance here. It's very possible he is challenging for a rotation spot next year.
Collin Balester 1.0-0-0-0-0-1
Kraig Sitton 1.0-1-0-0-0-0

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA) lost 4-3

C.J Hinojosa 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K.

Tyler Herb 6.0-5-1-1-2-6
Sam Coonrod 1.0-2-3-3-2-2. Coonrod's turn would have been tomorrow (today), so this is an interesting move. It's possible they're limiting his innings, but given this is his 3rd full season I doubt it. It's possible too that they didn't like what they saw out of the rotation and will have him stay in the Pen going forward (I think his stuff plays up in the Pen anyway, where he can ramp up his fastball and he doesn't really have a reliable 2nd pitch yet). Needs to be added to the 40-man roster this winter so they are probably preparing for that.
Seth Rosin 1.0-0-0-0-0-2

San Jose Giants (A+) WON 2-0

Steven Duggar 0-2, 1 R, 2 BB, SB (2), E (1).
Jonah Arenado 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI.

Grant Watson 6.2-4-0-0-1-5
Caleb Simpson 1.1-0-0-0-0-1
Carlos Diaz 1.0-1-0-0-0-2

Augusta GreenJackets (A) lost 5-1

Nothing of note

Yordy Cabrera 4.0-6-3-3-2-3
D.J. Myers 3.0-5-2-2-1-2
Caleb Smith 1.0-0-0-0-0-0

Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (A-) are on All-Star Break.

Giants had 4 All-Stars, and 3 started:

Malique Ziegler 0-2. Started and batted 1st.
Manuel Geraldo 1-3, 1 SB, 1 K.
Ryan Kirby 0-2. Started.

Stetson Woods 1.0-0-0-0-0-2. Threw the 1st pitch.

DSL Giants (Rookie) WON 10-4

The 2 guys that are drawing the most attention right now hammered.
Alexander Canario 3-5, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R.
Franklin Labour 3-5, HR (4), 2B, 4 RBI, 3 R.

And as Cal noted, Gregory Santos made his debut.
Gregory Santos 4.0-6-1-1-1-5.

Are you thinking about the international player for whom the Giants did not sign a couple of years ago (what was that player's name again)? I thought that issue had more to do with the player having a last minute change of heart about the amount and wanted to find someone who would give him more money.

Yeah the DSL is a real crap shoot. Generally what I look for in position players is power numbers (most of these kids are 16-18, so them showing any kind of power is impressive), BB and K/BB ratios (most of the pitchers are wild, but if a guy has a high K rate and is not walking, that a red flag).

Conversely, it's tough to get much of anything out of pitchers, but if they're putting up good numbers with decent rate stats they're watch list type. It's what happens to them when they get promoted that stands out. If a guy with good numbers goes straight to Augusta, time to take him seriously. If he goes to Arizona, not the end of the world, but doesn't say much.

Eddy Julio Martinez?

In regards to protection, there's a few names that will need the Giants seriously thinking about shielding form the Rule 5. They are:

Pitchers: Tyler Beede, Sam Coonrod, Matthew Gage, Jordan Johnson, Rodolfo Martinez, Tyler Rogers, DJ Snelton; Catchers: Aramis Garcia; Infielders: none; Outfielders: Gustavo Cabrera, Hunter Cole, Dylan Davis

Those are just the top names of who would be eligible to get drafted from other teams this December.

The kid from Cuba a couple years ago. Martinez? He ended up signing with the Cubs.
