Idk, scouts only take numbers into account so much. I can flip it and say "why is this guy who's hitting .325 in A+ still in A+? He should be promoted, there's nothing for him there". And scouts (I hope) don't look at the national media's opinions. Frankly, after like the top 20-30 guys, consensus goes out the window and it becomes a cluster.

As for the Giants, they've overall been pretty aggressive with their dudes, and I haven't seen much change this year.

Side note: I think that they have TOO many players and not enough space. They could use an extra farm team, another AZL team maybe. It would take a couple of years, but you would see the Giants slow down promotions at that point maybe.
I would agree with that assessment. If you look at the current rosters of each farm team, the Giants have 29 active players listed on Sacramento's roster (not sure how they pulled that one off), 42 on Salem-Keizer's roster and another 42 on the AZL Giants' roster. This does not include guys who are restricted, suspended or on the disabled list. Compare to last year when, I believe, SV had about 34 players on their roster and AZL had around 38. When you've got enough players to field almost 3 starting lineups and 2 complete pitching staffs, on two separate teams(!), its time to look into one of the advanced rookie leagues (Pioneer and Appalachian).

Caleb Gindl was playing independent ball and did make an appearance with the White Sox this year during spring training. His signing seems to support the idea that the Giants are easing up on promoting their prospects when they have two or three outfielders in San Jose that they could have promoted to fill the roster spot in Richmond.

Rivercats facing Clayton Blackburn tonight.
Just looked at his numbers with Round Rock. How far he has fallen since posting a 2.85 ERA in the PCL at 22 years of age. He should become a minor league free agent this offseason, unless the Rangers protect him. What are the chances he's back with the Giants next year?

Why is Aramis Garcia still with San Jose? And why do the Giants keep picking up these castoffs for Richmond? Dillon McNamara pitched awfully for the Yankees' AA affiliate, so the Giants trade for him and promptly put in Richmond. The rest of the pitching staff mainly consists of said castoffs - Collin Balestar (who got moved up to AAA), Jose Flores (also move up to AAA), Cody Hall, Vic Black, Nick Reed, Seth Rosin, Jarret Martin, Stephen Johnson (currently on the dl) and Tyler Herb (although Herb may not quite fit in this category). The hitting seems to be similar too - Slade Heathcott (I would like to see him promoted to AAA though), Carlos Garcia (also on the dl), Jerry Sands, K.C. Hobson and Caleb Gindl. I understand that teams always fill out roster spots with castoffs and minor league free agents but I've not even mentioned the Giants' organizational fillers (Jeff Arnold, Eliezer Zambrano, Brandon Bednar, Myles Schroder). It would be nice to see some guys from San Jose get promoted instead.

Sacramento River Cats (AAA) (42-61) WON 6-5 in a walkoff

I was at this game. Parker hit a homer to lead off the game, Shaw followed with a two-run bomb to stake the Rivercats to a 3-0 lead. Both hits were to left field (oppo). Giants' starter gave up 4 runs, then Ryder Jones drove in two with a liner down the 3rd base line (oppo). Law gave up the tying run in the 9th, then Lollis drove in the game winner.

Panda DH'ed and went 1-2, drew 2 walks and a HBP. He "looked" in good shape, and was energized by the crowd, which was small. I had heard he gave up switch hitting in Boston, but he hit both ways tonight.

Parker's homer was a no doubter, but he is hit or miss. He walked twice and K'ed twice.

Shaw's homer was also a no doubter, and he played well in LF

Heath Slatton 1.0-1-2-2-2-0 (12.60) What in the deity's name is Slatton doing at AAA? He had a 7.04 ERA for S-K, a 9.82 ERA for San Jose, and now he's at AAA? WHY?!?!??!
That is a good question. This is actually his 2nd tour with the RiverCats. The Giants has been employing a roster fill method that they haven't used in quite some years. They have guys that they just bounce around and place where ever there is a roster spot open. Some are east coast guys and others are west coast guys. At different points in the year, the RiverCats have had Dusten Knight, T.J. Bennett, Heath Slatton, John Polonius, Matt Winn, Will LaMarche, David Owen and A.J. Ramirez on the roster. They probably do this just to save on traveling expenses.
Why they don't promote guys like Jerry Sands, Slade Heathcott and Carlos Alvarado, who are at least playing well enough in AA to earn promotions is beyond me. In a season like this, bring them to AAA, see how they hit or pitch there, and, if they do well, bring up to the big leagues. Sands and Heathcott have big league experience too.

Shaun Anderson had a really nice debut, despite the numbers. As posted in the Top Prospects thread, the innings will be low, pitch count around 60. Anderson started out the game retiring 10 of 11. According to Joe Ritzo, his velo was around 93-94 with the fastball. Also said he should have only allowed 1 run in the 4th, but his defense let him down. Got a couple of grounds that should have been double plays but weren't. On the night, he induced 7 groundouts.
