Sacramento won
5-4

Angel Pagan 2-3, 2 runs and 2 walks
Everth Cabrera 3-5, RBI, SB
Ryan Lollis 1-4, SB
Hector Sanchez 3-5, 2-RBI as the DH
Mac Williamson 0-4, 2Ks

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Tommy Hanson (W, 3-5) 6.0-6-2-0-1-4-0 (5.63) - 1 error
Steven Okert (H, 7) 1.1-4-2-2-1-1-1 (3.83) (30 pitches)
Cody Hall (S, 3) 1.2-3-0-0-2-1-0 (3.56) (39!! pitches)

Pagan's fist rehab game, scored a run in both Sacramento rallies. With Strickland, Osich, Broadway and Cordier gone, this bullpen is thin right now, with Hall and Okert going multiple innings. Lollis threw out the tying run at home in the 9th inning to save Hall.

Richmond won 2-1

Juan Ciriaco 2-4, 2B, 1R, 2SBs
Hunter Cole 2-3, RBI, 1R, BB (.303), 1 error
Ricky Oropesa 1-4, 2B
Mitch Delfino 0-3, RBI

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Kelvin Marte (W, 10-5) 8.0-4-1-1-1-9-0 (2.38) 100 pitches, 71 strikes!
Phil McCormick (S, 2) 1.0-0-0-0-2-1-0 (2.19)

Lucas Giolito (L, 2-2) 6.2-5-2-2-1-8-0 (3.57)

Marte was superb, tied a career high in innings pitched, and broke a career high in strikeouts. He out pitched Lucas Giolito, who is considered one of the top pitching prospects in baseball right now. Marte isn't exactly a prospect, just organizational depth. But with lines like this consistently, crazier things have happened.

San Jose won 1-0

Christian Arroyo 1-4 (.318)
Daniel Carbonell 0-4, 1R, 1 error
Brian Ragira 2-3, RBI (.258)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Jason Forjet (W, 6-4) 6.0-4-0-0-3-6-0 (2.92)
Tyler Rogers (H, 4) 2.0-0-0-0-1-2-0 (1.53)
Dan Slania (S, 16) 1.0-0-0-0-0-0-0 (3.19)

Another tzill special™ 3 pitchers combined for a 4 hit shutout, while the offense provided all they would need. Carbonell reached on an error and scored on a Ragira single.

Augusta lost 7-3

Richard Rodriguez 3-5, 3B, RBI, 1R (.333)
Dylan Davis 1-2, 3BBs, 2B (.274)
Skyler Ewing 1-4, RBI
Matt Pare 3-3, 2B, RBI

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Patrick Young (L, 8-4) 2.2-8-6-4-5-3-0 (4.22)
Jake McCasland 3.1-2-1-1-1-5-0 (5.60)
Rodolfo Martinez 2.0-0-0-0-1-1-0 (2.90)
Eury Sanchez 1.0-1-0-0-1-2-0 (3.21)

Bad pitching from Young, and bad defense behind him as well. Arenado committed his 26th and 27th error (both throwing). Not much to see here.

Salem-Keizer lost 4-1

Christopher Shaw 0-3, 3Ks (.277)
Richard Amion 1-4, 1R

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Michael Connolly (L, 4-2) 5.0-8-2-2-2-6-0 (3.33)
Jarret Leverett 1.0-1-0-0-0-0-0 (4.23)
E.J. Encinosa 2.0-2-2-2-1-1-1 (5.06)

Even less to see here from Augusta. Shaw is noteworthy because it's his second consecutive hat-trick. Amion singled, advanced on a errant pickoff throw, scored on a wild pitch. The Giants are teaching the ground attack all the way through the system.

AZL Giants won 6-1 in 7 innings (game 1 of DH)

Dillon Dobson 2-4, 2R (.305)
Tyler Brown 1-2, RBI, BB, 1R (.417)
Mark Weist 1-3, 2RBI, 2B

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Domenic Mazza (W, 3-0) 5.0-4-1-1-0-7-0 (1.27)
Kendry Melo 2.0-1-0-0-0-2-0 (4.45)

First start for Mazza, and it was fantastic. Local kid from Walnut Creek, went to U.C. Santa Barbara

AZL Giants lost 4-2 in 7 innings (game 2 of DH)

Byron Murray 1-2, 2 RBI (.275)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Mac Marshall 3.0-2-2-1-2-6-0 (2.57)
Jose Morel (L, 5-1) 2.0-2-2-0-0-3-0 (2.05)
Ryan Koziol 1.0-0-0-0-0-0-0 (3.92)

Mac Marshall, one of our top picks in 2015, pitched very well again. 6 strikeouts, 2 groundouts.

Sacramento
lost 5-1

Angel Pagan 1-4, 1R
Ryan Lollis 2-4, 2 doubles
Nick Noonan 2-4
Ben Turner 2-3

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Clayton Blackburn (L, 8-4) 6.2-9-3-2-1-4-0 (3.23)
Clay Rapada 0.1-3-2-0-1-0-0 (3.18)
Brett Bochy 1.0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (2.58)

Blackburn got 8 groundouts and 3 DPs. Was pitching well until the 7th, Rapada came in with 2 runners on and let them both score, than gave up 2 more runs on top of that. Pagan goes 1-4 in his final rehab game, another single to center.

Richmond won 3-0

Austin Slater 1-3, 1R, 1BB
Juan Ciriaco 1-4, 2B, 1R
Hunter Cole 1-4, RBI
Ricky Oropesa 2-4, 1R
Mitch Delfino 1-4, RBI
Engel Beltre 1-4
Eliezer Zambrano 1-4, RBI

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Matt Lujan (W, 8-5) 7.0-5-0-0-3-7-0 (3.20)
Kyle Crick (H, 5) 0.2-0-0-0-2-0-0 (2.98)
Pedro Rodriguez (S, 1) 1.1-0-0-0-0-1-0 (2.39)

Every Richmond starter got a hit, except for the leadoff hitter (yes the pitcher had one). Of the 10 hits, 9 were singles. The Lefty Lujan pitched well, 7Ks.

Kyle Crick pitched got 2 outs, but walked 2 guys. Of his 15 pitches, 3 were for strikes. THREE! Yet he still recorded 2 outs. This guy is something else.

San Jose won 8-1

Angel Villalona 3-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI
Daniel Carbonell 1-3, 2 BBs, 1R
Aramis Garcia 2-5, 2R
Brian Ragira 1-4
Tyler Horan 2-4, 2B, 3 RBI
Seth Harrison 3-4, RBI
Christian Arroyo 1-5, 2Ks

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Andrew Suarez (W, 1-0) 6.0-5-1-1-0-5-1 (0.90)
Luis Ysla 2.0-0-0-0-0-3-0 (6.08)
Jeff Soptic 1.0-1-0-0-0-1-0 (3.16)

A lot to like in this game. We'll start with Suarez, the Giants second round pick in 2015. The Lefty let up only 1 run on a solo homer. He was 87-92 with the fastball, good slider and changeup. This was his second start for San Jose. In 10 IP, he's allowed 1 R, 6 H, 10 Ks, 1 BB

Villalona had 2 homers, now with 35 career shots in San Jose puts him 5th in Giant's history. Garcia was impressive at the plate and behind the plate. He gunned down 2 runners trying to steal tonight, already 13 for San Jose. He's thrown out 57% of runners, which is phenomenal. Did allow a passed ball though, so he still needs work!

Augusta lost 4-2

Will Callaway 2-5
Chuckie Jones 1-3, HR (.269)
Andrew Cain 3-4 (.215)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Chris Johnson (L, 1-4) 6.0-7-2-1-1-3-0 (5.17)
Dusten Knight 1.2-2-2-1-2-3-0 (2.75)
Carlos Diaz 1.1-0-0-0-1-3-0 (1.78)

Another sloppy game for Augusta, who've now lost 8 straight after they looked to be fighting for the playoffs. Jones hit a homerun, but that was the offense. Diaz is having a nice season though, 73-16 K/BB ratio in 52 IP and a .215 BAA.

Salem-Keizer won 3-2 in 10 innings

Ronnie Jebavy 2-5, 2 doubles, 1R (.268)
Steven Duggar 2-5, RBI (.280)
Miguel Gomez 1-5 (.329)
Christopher Shaw 2-4, HR, 2Ks (.283)
Scott Price 2-4 (.318)
Richard Amion 2-4, 2B, 1R (.239)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Grant Watson 3.1-3-0-0-2-4-0 (3.86)
Eric Sim 1.2-0-0-0-1-0-0 (2.54)
David Owen (H, 4) 2.0-0-0-0-0-2-0 (2.84)
Cory Taylor (H, 8) 1.0-0-0-0-1-1-0 (2.25)
Caleb Smith (BS, 2)(W, 3-2) 2.0-2-2-2-1-2-0 (3.13)

Jebavy continues to be one of my favorite players. Just plays with a ton of electricity. Could possibly be a great 4th OFer one day. SHAWSOME broke out of his mini-slump with a homer, but still struckout twice after 2 consecutive games with a hat-trick.

AZL Giants lost 6-4

Jalen Miller 2-5, RBI, 1R
Mikey Edie 1-4, RBI
Dillon Dobson 1-4, RBI
Byron Murray 1-4, 1R
Tyler Brown 1-4, 2B (.392)
Kleiber Rivas 1-4, RBI
Mark Weist 1-4, 1R
Jean Angomas 1-4, 1R

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Phil Bickford 3.0-1-0-0-0-6-0 (2.01)
David Graybill 1.0-1-1-1-0-0-0 (18.00)
Randy Ortiz 0.2-1-1-1-1-0-0 (6.50)
Matthew Pope (L, 0-2) 0.1-3-2-2-0-1-0 (4.91)
Dylan Brooks 1.1-2-1-1-3-2-0 (2.25)
Ryan Koziol 1.2-2-1-1-1-0-0 (4.03)

Bickford, our first overall pick in 2015, was tremendous. K'd 6 of the 10 he faced. Got up to 93 with the fastball, 5 of the strikeouts were swinging. The numbers are starting to come around for Bickford, 22.2 IP, 13H, 32/6 K/BB. He's on a 40-50 pitch limit per start. GET HYPE

I guess the Dominican League Giants are in the playoffs? They won 7-0 against the Yankees.

I prefer to see good numbers than bad numbers, but this is a college senior (high draft pick) playing against low-level picks and HS kids. No reason to get excited about these numbers. The AZL is really just glorified scrimmages.

That said, I am excited about this kid. He could be pushing Beede as the top prospect by mid-2016. I saw someone (I forget who) compare him to Scherzer for the type of ceiling he has. I wouldnt be overly surprised to see that he is our Ace by 2021 or so.

He's been especially dominant lately:

8.1 IP, 4 hits, 0 ERs, 19 Ks, 2 BBs.

I'm excited to see him full-season next year.

If the Giants do end up having Beede and Bickford as big arms in their rotation, how pissed with the Jays be?

Dayum, boys. Sign you picks, already!

Killer B's, Bumgarner, Bickford, Beede. And three completely different looks, by the way. Bum is a funky lefty, Bickford is a power/strikeout guy, and Beede is a sinker baller.

Getting real ahead of myself here, but that would be sick.

Sacramento lost 3-1

Ryan Lollis 2-4, assist
Trevor Brown 2-4, 2B, 1R

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Nik Turley (L, 6-7) 6.0-7-3-3-2-7-1 (4.63)
Cory Gearrin 2.0-1-0-0-0-2-0 (2.87)

Not much going on here. Lollis had 2 more hits and another OF assist. He was swinging it well in SF before he was demoted, and he has a hit in every game since being sent down.

Richmond lost 6-5

Rando Moreno 2-5, 2R
Mitch Delfino 2-5, 1R
Ricky Oropesa 3-4, HR (13th), 2B, 3 RBI (.253)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Chase Johnson 4.2-6-2-2-3-4-0 (7.27)
Phil McCormick 0.1-0-0-0-0-0-0 (2.18)
Jose Casilla 1.0-1-2-0-2-0-0 (1.53)
Matt Gage 1.0-1-0-0-0-3-0 (4.94)
Tyler Mizenko (BS, 5)(L, 4-3) 1.0-3-2-2-1-0-1 (2.08)

Chase Johnson has struggled in 2 starts in Richmond so far. Don't know why Richmond has been the struggling point for our pitchers this year. Through 4 innings, Johnson was cruising sitting at 2H, 2BBs, 4Ks and 0ER on 60 pitches. His final line shows that the 5th inning just got hairy for him. He allowed 4 hits, a walk, 2 runs and threw 2 wild pitches getting only two outs on 25 pitches. He left with the bases loaded, but McCormick got out of the jam. He's still nasty though, 2 GIF's below show his nasty curveball.

Not to be ignored, Oropesa was a triple shy of the cycle.

San Jose won 7-3

Jeff Kobernus 3-5, 2B, 2R, SB
Brandon Bednar 1-4, 2R
Daniel Carbonell 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 1R
Angel Villalona 1-5, RBI
Ryder Jones 1-4, 1R
Aramis Garcia 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 1R
Brian Ragira 1-4, 2 RBI
Tyler Horan 2-4, two 2B
Seth Harrison 0-4, 2Ks

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Jose Reyes (W, 4-6) 8.0-5-1-1-1-6-0 (6.27)
Ian Gardeck 1.0-3-2-2-0-1-0 (3.83)

Every San Jose starter got a hit, except for poor Seth Harrison. Garcia, Kobernus and Carbonell had particularly exceptional days. Reyes easily has his best start for San Jose. Tied a career high in innings. Reyes finished off a dominating 4-game sweep for San Jose pitching. The starters combined to allow 2 runs in 25 2/3 innings.

Augusta won 2-1

Dylan Davis 1-3, 2R, 2B
Jonah Arenado 1-3, RBI, error (29th-throwing)
Matt Pare 2-3

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Mark Reyes (W, 8-6) 7.0-2-1-0-3-3-0 (2.15)
Eury Sanchez (H, 2) 1.0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (3.00)
Reyes Moronta (S, 10) 1.0-0-0-0-0-2-0 (5.76)

Augusta finally won, breaking the 8 game losing streak. Though it took great pitching. Mark Reyes has been fairly dominant all season, but not in the sexiest way. Only a 5.9 SO/9, but he's limiting base runners and getting a ton of ground balls. He had 13 groundball outs in this game. Another throwing error from Arenado.

Salem-Keizer lost 4-3

Steven Duggar 2-4, 1R, RBI
Christopher Shaw 2-4, HR (9th), 2B, 2 RBI

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Logan Webb (L, 3-5) 0.2-3-3-3-2-2-0 (5.06)
Nathanael Santiago 2.1-1-0-0-0-1-0 (3.41)
Rayan Hernandez 3.0-4-1-1-0-2-1 (5.59)
Armando Paniagua 1.0-1-0-0-2-2-0 (6.98)
Jarret Leverett 1.0-1-0-0-0-0-0 (4.08)

The Volcanoes' offense came from the bat of SHAWESOME, with a 2 run homer that was not a cheapy, from the scouts who were in attendance. Unfortunately, he struckout his other 2 ABs making that 10 Ks in his last 4 games. In fact, 10 of the last 11 outs he's made have been via strikeout.

AZL Giants won 4-2

Mikey Edie 2-4, 1R
Dillon Dobson 0-2, 1R, BB
Tyler Brown 0-4, RBI
Jean Angomas 0-2, 1R, BB
Byron Murray 0-2, 1R, RBI
Mark Weist 0-2, RBI

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Deiyerbert Bolivar (W, 2-1) 5.0-4-1-1-2-8-0 (2.08)
Kendry Melo (H, 3) 2.0-1-1-0-0-4-0 (4.15)
Randy Ortiz (H, 4) 1.0-0-0-0-0-0-0 (6.16)
Heath Slatton (S, 8) 1.0-1-0-0-0-2-0 (0.79)

This has a chance to be the weirdest box-score I've ever read. The tiny Giants only had 2 hits, and Edie had both of them. He only scored 1 run and didn't rive any in. They had more walks (4) and strikeouts (8) than hits (2). No one had a walk, and an RBI, yet no one had a hit and an RBI. They also grounded into one DP. I can't really wrap my brain around this one. Very strange.

The pitching OTOH was quite dominant.

The DSL Giants lost their second playoff game 9-1, to the Yankees.

Richmond won 5-3

Rando Moreno 2-5, 1R
Myles Schroder 3-5, 2B, 3B, 2R, 2 RBI
Juan Ciriaco 3-5, 2B, 1R, RBI
Hunter Cole 2-5, 2 RBI
Ricky Oropesa 1-4, 2B

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Tyler Beede (W, 3-8) 5.0-5-2-2-3-4-0 (5.23)
Pedro Rodriguez (H, 5) 2.0-2-1-1-0-0-0 (2.47)
Phil McCormick (H, 12) 0.2-2-0-0-0-0-0 (2.15)
Kyle Crick (H, 6) 0.1-0-0-0-0-1-0 (2.97)
Derek Law (S, 9) 1.0-1-0-0-0-2-0 (5.40)

So, all eyes are on Beede whenever he starts. Encouraging effort out there based on the raw numbers, but there wasn't much to report that I've seen yet. I'll update this if I see anything tomorrow. His issue since coming up to Richmond has been fastball command. Today, he threw a lot of pitches in 5 innings (95-50 for strikes), and still seemed to be a little off with command. He'll likely make one more start. Crick struckout the only guy he faced, and Law K'd 2 for the save.

The 9-1-2-3-4 did all the damage in this game offensively.

San Jose won 5-0

Jeff Kobernus 2-5, 2B, 1R
Daniel Carbonell 1-4, 2B, 1R
Ryder Jones 1-4, 2B, R
Brian Ragira 2-5, 3B, 2R, 2 RBI
Christian Arroyo 0-5 (.311)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Martin Agosta (W, 5-8) 7.0-7-0-0-0-9-0 (4.50)
Ray Black 1.0-1-0-0-0-1-0 (3.13)
Jake Smith 1.0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (2.40)

San Jose pitching strikes out a lot of guys, and big contributors to that are the 3 guys who pitched tonight. They did not disappoint. Whatever Agosta was going through over the first few months of the season, he has absolutely figured it out. He has found his rhythm and release point and the numbers have been phenomenal. He's preventing hits, he's attacking the strikezone, and he's pitching deep into games. Black and Smith come in to finish the shutout for their 6th straight win. The San Jose Giants have always had great pitching staffs, with big names going through setting all kinds of records. This San Jose staff has 14 shutouts, most since 1996, and they are also 24 strikeouts away from setting a franchise record of 1283. They didn't have any Bumgarners or Cains or Aldersons. Beede isn't a huge strikeout guy. They did it as a unit, with 5 guys in the top 20 in A-ball. There are some nasty pitchers on the way.

Ragira is hot, batting .462 last 10.

Augusta lost 5-1

Jonah Arenado 2-4

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
D.J. Snelten (L, 5-5) 4.0-7-5-4-2-3-0 (3.00)
Connor Kaden 3.0-1-0-0-1-1-0 (4.26)
Rodolfo Martinez 2.0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (2.76)

Not much to see here. Augusta continues to fade. Sad to see after such a strong start to the season.

Salem-Keizer lost 5-0

Miguel Gomez 1-3 (.328)
Christopher Shaw 0-3 ZERO K'S!(.283)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
Luis Pino (L, 3-1) 6.0-7-5-2-1-2-1 (1.38)
E.J. Encinosa 2.0-3-0-0-0-2-0 (4.71)
Armando Paniagua 1.0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (6.64)

Again, not much to see here as Salem is fading down the stretch on the same vibes with Augusta. I highlighted a couple guys because of some stories. First, I'm pretty sure Miguel Gomez is the second coming of Pablo Sandoval. Gomez played 3rd today, but he also catches regularly. He's the freest swinger I've ever seen. He has a 2% BB rate, which is 6th worst in the entire MiLB, and a 7.8% K rate, which is 21st best in MiLB. Only one MiLB player could boast being a better hacker. I'll be curious to see how he moves along, but he is 22 already, and his defense is questionable at best.

Second, SHAWESOME didn't strikeout, which was noteworthy after 10 of his last 11 outs were strikeouts.

Third and final, as of July 31st Luis Pino had a 0.00 ERA in 34.2 IP, and as of August 21st, he had a 0.33 ERA in 45.2 IP (1 ER). Tonight, his ERA is 1.38. What a scrub.

AZL Giants lost 2-0

Jose Morel 2.1-1-0-0-1-3-0 (1.91)

Honestly, not much to say here. Giants had 5 hits, all singles and they came in the first two or last 2 innings. Pitcher had 7 K's but 9 hits given up.

I promised more info on the Richmond game and here it is.

Kyle Crick came in with 2 outs, but the tying runs on base and was able to pitch through the jam. Last fastball 97 mph with some natural cut. This kid could be a nasty weapon of the Pen if he can figure his mechanics out.

Sacramento was postponed (In Iowa)

Mac Williamson was tonight's "Future Focus" on the NBC Bay Area broadcast of the Giants Game.

Richmond won 5-3

Rando Moreno 2-5, 1R
Myles Schroder 3-5, 2B, 3B, 2R, 2 RBI
Juan Ciriaco 3-5, 2B, 1R, RBI
Hunter Cole 2-5, 2 RBI
Ricky Oropesa 1-4, 2B
Jesus Galindo 2-3, 1R

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Tyler Beede (W, 3-8) 5.0-5-2-2-3-4-0 (5.23)
Pedro Rodriguez (H, 5) 2.0-2-1-1-0-0-0 (2.47)
Phil McCormick (H, 12) 0.2-2-0-0-0-0-0 (2.15)
Kyle Crick (H, 6) 0.1-0-0-0-0-1-0 (2.97)
Derek Law (S, 9) 1.0-1-0-0-0-2-0 (5.40)

So, all eyes are on Beede whenever he starts. Encouraging effort out there based on the raw numbers, but there wasn't much to report that I've seen yet. I'll update this if I see anything tomorrow. His issue since coming up to Richmond has been fastball command. Today, he threw a lot of pitches in 5 innings (95-50 for strikes), and still seemed to be a little off with command. He'll likely make one more start. Crick struckout the only guy he faced, and Law K'd 2 for the save.

The 9-1-2-3-4 did all the damage in this game offensively.

San Jose won 5-0

Jeff Kobernus 2-5, 2B, 1R
Daniel Carbonell 1-4, 2B, 1R
Ryder Jones 1-4, 2B, R
Brian Ragira 2-5, 3B, 2R, 2 RBI
Christian Arroyo 0-5 (.311)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/K/HR (ERA)
Martin Agosta (W, 5-8) 7.0-7-0-0-0-9-0 (4.50)
Ray Black 1.0-1-0-0-0-1-0 (3.13)
Jake Smith 1.0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (2.40)

San Jose pitching strikes out a lot of guys, and big contributors to that are the 3 guys who pitched tonight. They did not disappoint. Whatever Agosta was going through over the first few months of the season, he has absolutely figured it out. He has found his rhythm and release point and the numbers have been phenomenal. He's preventing hits, he's attacking the strikezone, and he's pitching deep into games. Black and Smith come in to finish the shutout for their 6th straight win. The San Jose Giants have always had great pitching staffs, with big names going through setting all kinds of records. This San Jose staff has 14 shutouts, most since 1996, and they are also 24 strikeouts away from setting a franchise record of 1283. They didn't have any Bumgarners or Cains or Aldersons. Beede isn't a huge strikeout guy. They did it as a unit, with 5 guys in the top 20 in A-ball. There are some nasty pitchers on the way.

Ragira is hot, batting .462 last 10.

Augusta lost 5-1

Jonah Arenado 2-4

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
D.J. Snelten (L, 5-5) 4.0-7-5-4-2-3-0 (3.00)
Connor Kaden 3.0-1-0-0-1-1-0 (4.26)
Rodolfo Martinez 2.0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (2.76)

Not much to see here. Augusta continues to fade. Sad to see after such a strong start to the season.

Salem-Keizer lost 5-0

Miguel Gomez 1-3 (.328)
Christopher Shaw 0-3 ZERO K'S!(.283)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
Luis Pino (L, 3-1) 6.0-7-5-2-1-2-1 (1.38)
E.J. Encinosa 2.0-3-0-0-0-2-0 (4.71)
Armando Paniagua 1.0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (6.64)

Again, not much to see here as Salem is fading down the stretch on the same vibes with Augusta. I highlighted a couple guys because of some stories. First, I'm pretty sure Miguel Gomez is the second coming of Pablo Sandoval. Gomez played 3rd today, but he also catches regularly. He's the freest swinger I've ever seen. He has a 2% BB rate, which is 6th worst in the entire MiLB, and a 7.8% K rate, which is 21st best in MiLB. Only one MiLB player could boast being a better hacker. I'll be curious to see how he moves along, but he is 22 already, and his defense is questionable at best.

Saturday 8/29

Sacramento lost 2-1 in a makeup game. Game went 12 innings.

Sacramento lost 5-1 in the regular scheduled game in 7 innings.

Jarrett Parker, 2-8, 2R, HR (20th), RBI, SB (18th)
Nick Noonan, 3-6, RBI, SB (1st)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
Chris Stratton 6.0-6-1-1-0-3-0 (4.01)
Braulio Lara 1.0-0-0-0-2-0-0 (8.88)
Cody Hall 2.0-2-0-0-0-3-0 (3.46)
Steven Okert 2.0-2-0-0-2-3-0 (3.70)
Brett Bochy (L, 6-1) 0.1-3-1-1-0-0-0 (2.73)

Ty Blach (L, 11-11) 4.2-9-5-5-3-1-1 (4.21)
Curtis Partch 1.1-2-0-0-0-1-0 (3.71)

The River Cats had 7 hits combined in both games, and 5 came from Noonan and Parker. Parker hit the game-tying homerun in the 7th off of Rafael Soriano, which was technically serving as the 9th inning. So the game went to "extras" in the 8th. Stratton pitched very well, only needed 84 pitches (58 strikes) in 6 innings. Blach was rough OTOH. Hall pitched well in 2 innings. He might be at risk of getting DFA'd to make room for Williamson, or an infielder, so he's pitching for a SSeptember opportunity here.

Richmond won 5-3

Rando Moreno 1-4, R
Myles Schroder 2-4, R
Hunter Cole 1-3, R, 2B
Ricky Oropesa 3-4, 2 HR (14th, 15th), 2B, 2R, 5 RBI (Oropesa Grand Slam)

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
Joan Gregorio (W, 3-2) 5.0-7-3-3-4-4-1 (3.34)
Jose Casilla (H, 14) 1.0-2-0-0-0-1-0 (1.50)
Adalberto Mejia (H, 1) 2.0-2-0-0-0-4-0 (2.47)
Derek Law (S, 10) 1.0-0-0-0-0-1-0 (5.16)

Huge day at the plate for Oropesa, who was on fire coming into the game. Two homers; a solo shot and a grand slam. On the pitching side, Mejia made his return after a month on the shelf with shoulder soreness. Pitched very well in 2 innings. He'll probably stick in the bullpen the rest of this season, and pitch a lot of fall/winter ball after missing the majority of 2015. Lil' Casilla still mowing down hitters, he's a groundball machine and can go more than one inning if needed.

San Jose won 7-6 in 11 innings

Angel Pagan 1-5, 1R, assist
Christian Arroyo 2-5, 2 doubles, 1R
Daniel Carbonell 3-5, 2R, 2 RBI
Angel Villalona 2-5, HR (13th), 2 RBI
Aramis Garcia 1-4, 2B, 1R, 2 passed-balls

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
Christian Jones 4.2-5-3-3-2-3-1 (3.59)
Tyler Rogers 1.1-0-0-0-1-2-0 (1.50)
Dan Slania (BS, 6) 0.2-4-3-3-1-1-0 (3.56)
Ian Gardeck 2.1-3-0-0-0-1-0 (3.72)
Luis Ysla (W, 3-6) 1.0-1-0-0-0-1-0 (6.00)
Jake Smith (S, 15) 1.0-0-0-0-0-3-0 (2.38)

Pagan is following San Jose around until September 1st, he threw a runner out at home. San Jose has now won 7 in a row, but not with the great pitching they had the other 6 games. Thanks to Arroyo, Carbonell, and Villalona, and some late pitching, it didn't matter. Villalona's homerun tied the game in the 8th. Jake Smith continued his dominant season, striking out the side. He's up to 117 K's in 83 innings, 0.85 WHIP.

Augusta lost 2-0 in a rain shortened 6-innings

:trash:

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
Michael Santos (L, 0-2) 4.0-4-2-2-1-6-0 (3.21)
Dusten Knight 1.0-1-0-0-0-0-0 (2.71)

Augusta is a mess. Michael Santos is exciting though. He's an electric pitcher, but has dealt with health issues. He had big expectations this year, and just couldn't stay on the mound. We'll see where he goes next season.

Salem-Keizer won 2-0

Miguel Gomez 1-3, HR (6th)
John Riley 2-3, HR (5th), 2B

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
Andrew Leenhouts (W, 7-4) 7.2-6-0-0-1-5-0 (2.57)
Ryan Halstead (S, 6) 1.1-0-0-0-0-2-0 (2.52)

Gomez and Riley were the offense with solo homers in the 4th inning. The rest of the offense was quiet. I would't get too excited about Leenhouts, he's been in Salem 3 consecutive years now. And he's 25 years old. He better be dominating the league by now.

AZL Giants- off

DSL Giants won 9-2. Game 1 of Championship series.

Juan Rodriguez 1-5, 1R
Manuel Geraldo 2-4, 2R
Sandro Fabian 1-4, 2R, HR, 2 RBI
Beicker Mendoza 2-4, HR, 5 RBI, 2R
Marco Guzman 1-4
Jose Morles 1-3, RBI

IP/H/R/ER/BB/SO/HR/ERA
Norwith Gudino (W, 1-0) 5.2-5-2-2-1-4-1 (3.18)
Reymi Rodriguez (S, 1) 3.1-0-0-0-3-2-0 (0.00)

In a best of 5 Championship series, the Giants crushed the Rangers. Mendoza had just one homerun in the regular season, but he has back-to-back games with big homers. Clutch.

Have fun. Jordan Johnson will be on the mound.
He looked good for 3 with 94mph, then couldn't get anyone out in the 4th :( Arroyo and Carbonell looked good on D and Carbonell hit a dinger. All the pitchers got wacked around except for the submariner. I'll post some pics tomorrow hopefully. The Quackes starter hit 101. Gs got wacked.

edit: oh there was some mittfuckery going on out there today. the sun had gone down and the sky was dark, and the Gs center fielder lost the ball at the warning track in the… darkness?????? wa da fuq.

Just looked at Augusta's stats and, wow, that team is awful defensively, at least in terms of errors. They have three guys with at least 20 errors each, all infielders (Arenado - 30, Relaford - 23, Callaway - 20). Another infielder just barely missed 20 (Jeremy Sy, who retired a month and a half ago with 19 errors made). Even one of the part time outfielders, Andrew Cain, has 8 errors and so does the 1st baseman, Skyler Ewing. No wonder there are 101 unearned runs against Augusta this year.
