Gates played last season as LG for NYG. He could have played there for us as well.

Roullier is pretty much a sure bet to be gone.

Like I said elsewhere, I expect the OL to be
LT- Leno
LG- Paul
C- Gates
RG- Cosmi
RT- Wylie

Stromberg, Daniels, Lucas, and Norwell as backups.

I could see Stromberg winning the starting C job and Gates and Paul battling it out. There is also a chance Cosmi can’t play guard but I think he will be OK.

I would love to see Scott take over for Lucas but I don’t think he will.
I would love Norwell gone but he is a favorite of RR…I would much rather keep Charles.

  • Washington Commanders

    ANDREW NORWELLG, WASHINGTON COMMANDERS
    Andrew Norwell

The Athletic's Ben Standig writes Commanders LG Andrew Norwell's release "can be written in pen."

Ron Rivera neglected to mention the veteran in a rundown of candidates to start at left guard along with CHris Paul and Saahdiq Charles. A post-June 1 release of Norwell would save $4.38 million. The veteran could be a stopgap solution for some team if he hits the market.

Roullier has a cap hit of 12.4 and dead cap of 8.1 meaning it saves 4.3 million in cap space to cut him.

Norwell has a cap hit of 5.1 and dead space of 2.8 meaning it saves 2.3 mil against cap.

Right now, Washington will essentially have no cap space after signing its rookies. Cutting Roullier before June 1 saves the team $4.32M against the cap this year. Cutting him with a post-June 1 designation allows the team to push about $4M of bonus against the 2024 cap, and accelerate the availability of that money into 2023, freeing up $8.37M in cap space.
