Butler is 1-1 in SBs as far as I'm concerned.

Atlanta didn't count?

I really think we need to trust that Butler did something way less serious than murder and way more serious than chewing gum during a walk through. We need to accept that most of us wouldn't have benched him given the significance of the game, but accept that with BB's track record, his decision has merit beyond just ego.

I wished he played, but he didn't. Lastly, the value of no one knowing what Butler did is tremendous as far as holding everyone accountable. The only line that's been visibly drawn is follow the rules and you'll be fine.

Onto 2018.

As an aside, P Corey Bojorquez was signed by Buffalo to a contract 5 minutes after he was cut. Belichick was playing the cutesy game and hoped he would sneak around and then BB would sign him to the PS and develop him for next year. Not only the Boston media hangs around Gillette Stadium but so do other teams media blood hounds. Buffalo was desperate for a punter and when a kid is kicking the ball 80-100 feet high and 70 yards downfield. it doesn't take long for word to spread. This was why we never saw him kick in a preseason game. No team has two punters on the 53 man roster. So why not cut Ryan Allen if this kid was so good??

I heard this stated outright on a NBCSB program.....

The Patriots were told that the player curfew was 11:00 PM. All players were to be in bed by Midnight with lights out. The coaching would do a bed check at 12:15 AM and no one was exempt.

Butler was present at the team dinner and heard the above rule. He took off with friends as dinner ended and went out to a Super Bowl Party somewhere in the twin cities area. He didn't make it back for bed check. NBCSB said that a Patriot employee was stationed in the hotel lobby and Butler was delivered by friends at just after 4:00 AM and he needed help to stand up. He was drunk and had been doing something else which was not mentioned or speculated. The team was told that the buses would leave for the stadium at noon and that everyone should be ready and by ready that meant having eaten a healthy breakfast of fruit, protein and carbs.
Butler was still sleeping when the buses departed. No one knows exactly what time he got to the stadium but he participate in the warm ups and drills and showed no effect of his partying the night before.

Supposedly Belichick called Butler into his office along with Matt Patricia and told him he was benched for the game for violating the curfew and missing the team bus to the stadium.

I coached for 44 years. Not professionally or college. I had rules and I made kids follow them. The only time I didn't let a kid play an entire game is when the league suspended one of them, including my grandson for saying the forbidden word, "FUCK" on the fiedl during a game. AYF, Pop Warner, YIL all have the rule that the word fuck is the most serious offfnse a player can do. They can carry a knife, brass knuckles and evern a bazooka and use them during a game but if they as much as whisper "fuck" during a game, they are ejected and must sit out the following game. My grandson, a quarterback was sacked on two consecutive plays and scream at offensive line, "Can anybody fucking block?" He sat out a game a half and they lost both.

I only sat out a kid for a half of a game, because it taught him two things. One, he was not irreplacable and two, by being punished he hurt his team mates more than he hurt himself.

Belichick could have let Butler play the fourth quarter and told the team that he relented because it was apparent that Jones and Richard could not replace him and he didn't want to take away a Super Bowl Ring from the rest of the team for one players actions. That's what I would have done and started 2018 by telling everyone that what I'd done was a one time decision and I won't do it again.

Don't be surprised if the Patriots don't make the playoffs.

If you take all of the anger and the media BS and you put away from the true facts there are several things that must be considered.......................

1. The Patriots have participated in the AFC Championship game for 7 straight seasons.
2. The patriots have won 10 or more games for 15 seasons in a row.
3. The Patriots have been in 8 Super Bowls in the past 17 years.
4. The Patriots have won 5 of those 8 Super Bowls.

More importantly the Patriots have been penalized by having their first round pick taken away twice in the past 10 years.

The best draft position that the Patriots have had in the past 17 years is #10. For the past past 15 years they've picked #22 or lower every year.

There comes a point in time where the inability to pick any top twenty players will catch up to a team and it looks like 2018 is that time. The team's success is finally catching up and the rest of the league has been able to gradually improve because they've all been picking the best college players available every year.

Maybe a bad finish will benefit the Patriots and having a top 10 pick in every round will be the thing that's needed to tune this team up a bit.

As my wife said last night. The Patriots have spoiled the fans in New England. We've become so used to winning and winning Championships that anything less is unacceptable. She says we need to accept the fact that the patriots cannot be world champs every year and like all of the other teams, they must fall so they can learn to get up.

Cooks??? Please. He was fast, but not blazing, never caught a contested ball or gained a contested yard. He was a touch better than Brandon Lloyd.

Amendola?? Danny had great hands and was clutch in the playoffs, but could hardly make it on the field during the regular season. No way Bill, Robert or any other GM in their right mind was going to pay top dollar for a playoff only player.

Patterson and Dorsett both are faster than anyone since Moss and Stallworth.

C'mon BK...

They could have used both Cooks and Amendola these first 3 weeks, warts and all.

Eventually the Patriots luck had to run out. I am in no means packing in this season but I'm not expecting much now

With 18 years of success I can give them a pass. I had no worries last week.

It has to be noted: The other team wants to win too.

Looks ugly ATM, but OTOH, they gave up 95 points and 1383 yards through 3 games last year, 77 and 1219 this year. There's more wrong with this team than getting Edelman and Gordon out there can fix, but the track record for sorting out bad starts is there. We'll see if they can do it again.

Because Allen is better and no team carries two punters.

Allen is not the issue the offense and defense both suck. Can't stop the run, the pass. No receivers Gronk getting doubles at this time it just sucks

Agree, you don't cut a good punter in hand for the promise of a better one in the bush. If Allen were marginal, that would have been acceptable, but Allen is really good.

I posted that three weeks ago for crying out loud. What the fuck does it have to do with how louysy the Patriots are playing now??

If you'd pout on your reading glasses, you'd have read that BB wanted him on the practice squad. Typical BB, he doesn't want to have to pay Allen next year when his contract is up. Bojorquez is third in the NFL gross punting. Allen is tied for 8th.

That's only by total yards, which is a pointless stat for a punter. Allen's averages are better.
