We are still recovering ... At least you guys had a decent manager. At $200,000,000+ payroll, we hired a rookie manager who couldn't handle the team. I would have loved to see Gardenhire with the team we had.

I wanted Gardy then. Or I believe Franconia was available....I think

Ausmus was a laughable hire

A successful run. To me this sounds like a slight tear down is coming.

Drafting and development has not been a strength for DD. I still won't get the criticisms for trading prospects though, who did he trade that we're exactly missing? Moncada? Yeah it would have been nice to keep him, but then they possibly trade Devers. Kopech's been injured and it remains to be seen whether he's durable enough to remain a starting pitcher. Anderson Espinoza? He underwent a second Tommy John. The Thornburg trade sucked though, I think Dubon's going to be a pretty good player. Even in Detroit, Dombrowski had a good history with trading prospects.

Signing the likes of Eovaldi and jeopardizing the chances of extending Mookie is a legitimate criticism though.

Dave's a very good GM to put you over the top, but he's not a very good GM for a rebuild/teardown. He did his job IMO. A lot of credit for 2018 goes to Cherington as well.

Yeah they missed dubon i guess. But even then, mil traded him for little as well.

Pedroia getting hurt hasn’t a ripple effect as it cost they Buttrey, who would’ve been a nice addition to the pen this year.

I have a feeling a lot of it stemmed from the Mookie situation. Could have also stemmed from negotiation talks for DD (his contract with the Sox was up after 2020) and escalated from there.

The timing of it is just bizarre. This franchise does not know how to handle firing a GM/manager.

Well he has one year left on his deal.

If you don’t think he’s the guy to oversee the retooling, you let him go. Otherwise you extend him.

The sale and eovaldi contracts (not the trades) are really what did him in.

I think JBJ might get non-tendered or basically salary dumped this winter.

I don't think they bring back JD if he opts out.

Basically this team needs a financial reboot. But until Sale and Eo start throwing better that will be impossible.

Interesting news for sure. Seems like the Red Sox could be making a few moves over the next while. Hope 1 of those moves is to lock Betts up long term.

More likely it would be trading him.

Either at the expense of JD or Mookie... Possibly even both

Wouldn’t shock me. It would totally reset the payroll. But could also restock the farm.

Me neither... Suck to see either of them go however.... But with the way this season went I think JD opts out at least which means the Red Sox trade Mookie
