I can understand ownership being weary of long term contracts - but avoiding them all together is no way to build a championship team... If they fail this winter to offer Rafael Devers $300m for 10-11 years (given the current market conditions), then we can be sure they are officially rebuilding.

Triston Casas at first is a good start. Brayan Bello has shown promise. I guess we'll have to wait and see about Nick Yorke & Marcelo Mayer.

The future certainly looks bright with their current crop of prospects - but they need to invest a little on the current roster. They have three players signed beyond 2024...

The farm system is overrated imo

Mayer is a jewel, but it’s not a great farm right now

There is always hype, for sure. For every Mayer & Casas, there are fifty Jeter Downs...

Well Bloom was brought it to do exactly what he is doing so I do see this as a rebuilding team. Can't say I like it but it's looking that way.

Also, I am very pessimistic in regards to them resigning Devers. What gives anyone confidence they won't mess that one up either?

I mean the Sox are still running a high payroll…somehow

Sale is also taking up like 1/6-1/7 of it, and that’s not blooms fault

Their estimated booked payroll is currently $170M for 2023. This includes $8m to Jackie Bradley & $1.5m to Tommy Pham. But also a credit of $12m from Eric Hosmer (SD)...

(Sale $27.5m, Story $20m, Yoshida $18, Jansen $16, Barnes $8.38m, Martin $8m, Paxton $4)...

I live in Los Angeles now and damn near every other human here has a Mookie jersey. Hell, my kid has two of them. The Dodgers likely got their Mookie money back on merch sales alone. He's a likeable guy and other than this years playoff's is usually solid as a rock at the plate.

My guess is mthat they'll screw up the whole thing with Devers. They'll ship him out at the trade deadline for two cups of DD coffee and a half dozen donuts. The donuts will end up being stale. But JH will save $300M.

BUT, big BUT, JH may have painted himself into a corner by creating The Fenway Group. A bunch of hand selected billionaires who've coughed up $5B each to join in the ownership of the Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins and te Liverpool FC. They've also put in an offer on the Washington Commanders. These guys are monetary winners and I don't think thatthey'll take well to being "Professional" sports losers.

Yet they’re buying the commies, who have been losers since before bill Clinton was in office

Wow. Hosmer shown the door.

SD was STUPID for signing that contract. 144M for 3.7 WAR over 4+ seasons. Right up there with Howard and Fielder and Hamilton as one of the absolute worst contracts ever.

Thank god the Dodgers took on Price's contract so we could extend Bogaerts and Devers.

Not terribly surprising, he can only play one position (where one of their top prospects plays at) and the Sox already had too many lefties. But acquiring Mills after failing to protect Thad Ward from the Rule 5 Draft? Ehhhh.
