When a rookie hits his first MLB homer, the team usually gets it for him - and gives the lucky fan some cool shit.

Red Sox Masataka Yoshida hit his first, but Boston was unable to negotiate an exchange with the fan that caught it...

I wonder what the fan asked for. I remember talking to a player a few years ago about his first home run and I asked what it took to get the ball. He said he had to sign a bat for the fan and I said, I'd have done it for a signed ball. He asked if I had a pen and signed a ball for me.

Terrible.
And the kid was handed the ball caught by a Pirates fan, he didn't catch it.

Pure conjecture on my part, but…

Tough story, but if it was just a kid, he had a HR hit in an actual MLB game. He didn’t want to give that up.

He was too young to understand.

The batter wanted the ball so bad, why did he hit it into the stands in the first place? What an idiot.
