I am thinking we need a new (or revived) weekly category here on the SportsHoopla forums: Dolt of the week.

Think the guy who does the most bone-headed thing imaginable on the football field. Like for example...Tyrique Stevenson of the Bears celebrating during the hail mary play last week, only to give up the TD.

This week, Malachi Corley of the Jets, who celebrated prematurely and dropped the ball before crossing the end zone last night, is a very strong early frontrunner for dolt of the week.

Thoughts?

They should really have a mandatory compilation of these where every rookie has to watch. Heck make the whole team watch it. And then it put in their contract that if it happens, they lose three games of salary. The whole year if it costs them the playoffs or a playoff game. ;)

My theory is that really fast but really stupid guys like Desean Jackson are moving at a higher rate of speed than their brains. But...not as fast as their limited brains think they are moving.

So, they start thinking the play is over, because it is basically over so long as they keep running in a straight line. And they start thinking about the celebration, ideating it in their minds, before they formally cross the stripe and begin the celebration too early.

It's kind of a football version of the Dunning-Kruger effect, the phenomenon that explains why dumb people are often more likely to think they are smart than actual smart people, who know enough to understand their limitations. You never see the slow receivers do this, they fucking wait.

It's simple.

Too many players think that celebrating the touchdown is more important than scoring the touchdown.

I mean I want to put in DeSean Jackson clips so badly, but this thread is about thinking forward for weekly screw ups. lol.

I’m sure what you said happens, but I heard at the time of Desean Jackson that it was something that was a bit showboating where they try to release it as close to the end zone. Of course, I don’t have proof of that. It was just people talking. And they may have been talking out of their ass. But it sounded like it was a thing. Incidentally, I used to work with Desean Jackson’s mother in Los Angeles. She may be busy doing things now but she don’t have to work another day in her life.

It kind of makes me think of how some people will walk up to a crosswalk and when the light is green for them they pay no mind to whether Don't Walk is flashing, where turning cars are or anything else. This is it, it's their moment--to saunter through with no situational awareness.

It can be.

Just gotta not care if you get a flag.

I’ll take a shitload of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties over of these stupid fucking moves.
