I don't know that I get the move unless they're planning to convert Jansen to a set-up guy. Middle relief is their biggest need. Closer was the only spot in their bully worth a damn.

Yeah because adding another great bullpen arm wouldn't improve the depth of the bullpen?

Reports are they didn't give up any of Deleon, Urias or Seager.

We saw what happened in Washington when they tried to move their closer to the 8th because they traded for a more proven closer, didn't end well. Not saying that'll happen here because the pitchers are better and Jansen will be more ready for the 8th than Storen was in the middle of the season, but it's not always a success.

Well, alot of that had to do with Papeldouche only agreeing if his incentives would kick in.

So is this more than they would have gotten for him at the deadline last year or less?

Yeah, Papeldouche being part of it made me think it had a chance to go sour before he even threw a pitch for them.
If you're referring to Chapman and if they would have gotten more or less at the deadline 2015, I'd say more. Getting him for an extra postseason run would have added to the value.

The reports from LA are that people close to Jansen have stated that if Jansen is asked to set up Chapman, he ain't down for that....to put it mildly. Can't wait for this soap opera. :pop2:

Now to get Cespedes to keep them all happy. I would have thought the all cuban team would have been in miami though.

An MLB reporter had a tweet that made me laugh (paraphrasing):

Which will be the more dynamic duo, Chapman and Jansen dominating in the pen or Chapman and Puig dominating in the bars in Hollywood?

Speaking of all-cuban... i think the Fernandez to LA is worrying me more than was the thought of them getting Greinke back. According to the rumor mill, it will take a blockbuster type deal, but that's a quality arm if they get it. :bawling:

They could always flip Jansen. I would have thought that Jansen would be fine moving to the set-up position, he seems like a team player but he has been one of the more dominant closers in the game. He's had at least 80 K's in each of the past 4 seasons. If he wants to leave then I hope the Dodgers at least get something good for him.

In other news, Hisashi Iwakuma has reportedly agreed to terms with the Dodgers pending a physical. Impossible to replace a 1.66 ERA but Iwakuma seems like a solid addition to the top half of the rotation.

well, if they kept their top prospects in the chapman deal, its certainly a possibility. I know the cubs probably have enough to get Fernandez, but I doubt they will give them up.

I dont think the Dodgers will have any trouble moving Jansen, especially if they dont think he wants to be there. Would be some combination though.

Reportedly, Hernandez is also another clubhouse cancer guy. Apparently Jose's arrogance and brash style have distanced himself from his Miami teammates. Some of it is young and immature, but if the Dodgers trade for this guy, then they don't seem to give a shit about chemistry.

Maybe all of the brash, arrogant guys will get along and enjoy each other's style. :noidea:

not so fast:suds:

MLB.com's Mark Sheldon says the trade sending Aroldis Chapman to the Dodgers has not been completed and other teams could still be in the mix for the star closer.

OK then. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Monday morning that Chapman had been dealt to Los Angeles, but there's been no word on the return package in the hours since and the Reds are apparently still accepting offers from clubs for their fireballing Cuban closer. Stay tuned.
