That might bring the price down even more...

Supposedly that is why the Red Sox backed down from trying to get him

Knowing this now, it's going to be hilarious to hear the deals Cincy turned down in the summer.

I read there may need to be more teams involved, I guess the reds are not happy with the prospects offered. Just once it would be nice to see all baseball get together and say, look, lets make this guy prove he can still pitch before anyone makes a deal. I mean if he can still throw 101 with no control?

So, the Red Sox knew about this and the Dodgers didn't do the same due diligence? That doesn't reflect too well on Andrew Friedman.

Also, it seems a bit unethical that the Reds were trying to move him knowing about this.

I at least think its cool that Joe Torre stepped in and put a hold on all the conversations. Yeah, bones heal and eventually maybe they get their moneys worth, but the reds are also listening to offers for Frazier and the best secondbaseman in baseball now too.

Have the Giants contracted the Reds to act on their behalf to trade Panik? :noidea:

If you think Brandon Phillips is the best 2nd baseman in baseball, in 2015, you aren't paying attention.

They could always flip Jansen. I would have thought that Jansen would be fine moving to the set-up position, he seems like a team player but he has been one of the more dominant closers in the game. He's had at least 80 K's in each of the past 4 seasons. If he wants to leave then I hope the Dodgers at least get something good for him.

In other news, Hisashi Iwakuma has reportedly agreed to terms with the Dodgers pending a physical. Impossible to replace a 1.66 ERA but Iwakuma seems like a solid addition to the top half of the rotation.

Agree with flipping Jansen. Chapman is the better closer.....you don't not do this because you'll hurt someone's feelings.

As good as Jansen is....he gave up 6 HR's in 52 IP. Chapman only gave up 3.....in 66 IP.

Not to mention, the K's and fewer hits.

In all seriousness I doubt it happens now. Allegedly shooting a gun off after a domestic dispute with your wife is a lot different than pushing your sister in a club.

Phillips had maybe one season where you could call him the best 2B in his respective league (and Pedroia/Zobrist/Kinsler were easily better than him that year).
