Old Lion
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain

. I usually don't read the anti-Schwartz, Scotty, Gunns threads on here. No offense to anyone in particular, but fans usually only pay attention to calls that don't work out. For example I've seen various things from this past game directed at the staff. Not really sure why as the defense did a fine job and the offense did fine aside from players not executing. And players are going to fail to execute from time to time. It's the repeated failures that get me from players. And when certain ones don't straight up say"My fault" I have a problem with it.I think Matt needs to mature a bit. I think he still has some party frat boy in him. But I've never heard him pass blame to his teammates. I don't mind him being laid back, and I really don't care (or invest in) anything these athletes from any team say to the media. Schwartz is regularly defending his side arm, his mechanics etc..in public so I expect Stafford to say the same (in front of the microphones). Behind closed doors I'd like to think that at 25 years old, he believes he has tons of room to improve.
What I see is two guys going out there and pretty much single handily winning games in heroic fashion in the 4th quarter on pure talent once the playbook has been scrapped. Isn't that how the Lions win 95% of their games? Aren't we always praising Stafford and Megatron when they pull these comeback cat wins out of their asses?
When was the last game we piled up a thread talking about how some amazing call by Linehan or Schwartz won us a game? Ever? All I remember are threads about mistimed red flags, bad clock management, and fake punts by 5th round kickers.
Who called the sneak to beat Dallas? Schwartz? Nope.
Tim Twentyman wrote a piece about Burelson and Mathis putting the onus on the players and not the staff. I'd link the article but I can't from my phone. Maybe you can search for Twentyman articles?
I wish I shared your enthusiasm. I dont think if the Lions hang 50 on both the Giants and Vikes while shutting them out on defense that any team would be worried about playing the Lions. If this team really is a team like they claim to be, they'll beat both the Giants and Vikings asses. And in three weeks ESPN will be talking about how the Lions are the team no one wants to play in the first round.

No worries. Were you able to find it?
So I was thinking..... If Nate and Reg aren't just blow in' smoke up my ass.... this is a three game play into a job next year for Jimbo. (Same goes if they are)Two teams have a chance to not even give him a chance. And Reggie n Nate need to do somethin', not fum'ble, and I forget what my point even is. Go Eagles!!!
And Go Steelers!
Fuck it. All I care about now is the next two games. About to find out what this team is really made of. No close calls, no last minute heroics. If this team really is a team like they claim to be, they'll beat both the Giants and Vikings asses. If not, they'll be talking about who the next HC might be.
If nothing else it's exciting.
Reggie Bush says lack of discipline hurting Detroit Lions - ESPN
They both say the team lacks discipline(big fuckin surprise eh?) but that the onus falls in the players. They said it has nothing to do with the coaches and that in fact Schwartz is a disciplinarian. Are they just saying that so as to not cause a ruckus, or do they really feel that way?
Thoughts?
