So basically Mr. Bettman wants a "hall pass"? Fake chowing isn't as fun as it sounds Gary.... ( I don't even know what I'm saying anymore)

Bobby Lou drunk? Well, it is Friday afternoon in Florida.

Evander Kane's strange erotic journey to Minsk is apparently ova...

Jets forward Evander Kane has been cut loose by KHL club Dynamo Minsk.

Within days of joining Minsk, the 21-year-old was blasted by head coach Alexander Andrievsky for being out of shape and “not ready yet to play on KHL level.”

Two weeks later, Kane was suspended one game for checking Avangard Omsk defenseman Nikita Pivtaski in the head — which ended up being the most noteworthy thing he did in a Dynamo uniform.

Kane finished his brief KHL stint with one goal and no assists in 12 games played. He did manage to finish minus-8 and rack up 47 penalty minutes, mind you.

Why the NHL needs to rid themselves of Gary Bettman - Grantland

Gary Bettman needs to step down. No, we can't impeach him. Yes, we can continue to excoriate him. He's the worst commissioner in sports history, and really, it's going to remain that way unless Roger Goodell extends the NFL's season to 20 games, adds Wednesday- and Friday-night football to the schedule, pays a hitman to murder Jonathan Vilma, and gets outed for having a heated affair with his biographer, Peter King … and even then, I'd probably still give the edge to Bettman.

this is just an awesome article from Bill Simmons

I think the players might hold out for the long haul just because they hate Bettman. Seriously.

NHLPA should accept 50/50 without "make whole" on one condition - Bettman's gone. That'd be a popular PR move.

Can somebody explain the advantage of decertifying? What does it do, exactly? EDIT: Never mind, found a pretty explanatory article.

That article does a nice job of explaining the principles of decertification. If the PA and owners meet again and STILL can't find common ground, that strategy may be a way of breaking the stalemate.

Oftentimes what happens when unions go about decertification is it ends up pushing the two groups to come together for a solution. The owners generally aren't prepared to wage that form of a legal battle on top of already experiencing zero gate revenue, etc. that goes along with a lockout.

Gimme a break, Dreger...

DarrenDreger: Candor and strong opinion are always welcome, however, Ian White calling Gary Bettman an "idiot" is disrespectful and requires an apology.

What a dick. Are poor Gary's feelings hurt?

@DarrenDreger I didn't hear you crying for Jimmy D to apologize to the players after he called us "cattle"

Good for Clowe - Pretty obvious Dreger is and always has been a mouthpiece for the league (gotta protect that precious insider status, don't you know).

I dislike winters.....the brightest spot of them is BBQ and watching my Red Wings. Here it is late fall, and I'm stuck with only the BBQ & Walking Dead reruns.

Are we really going to lose another whole season? Really?

I'm sure Bettman gets some direction from some owners.....but...God I cannot stand that whiny fucker.

If the season does go, I just hope the players don't lose their resolve.

Nice article Simmons...buuuuuut:
"NHL's American hotbeds (Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Philly, Los Angeles, etc.)"

Sorry, there's something amiss in this sentence. LA is still up in the air and this lockout will hurt their cause.

But, that's extreme nitpicking. Great stuff. I'm doing a research paper on CBAs and how Commishes abuse their power. I'd focus on NHL/Bettman more, but the academic literature doesn't exist.

I also take exception to the fact that he feels hockey players shouldn't be paid as much because they're not the "reason" people go to games. That's crap. They get paid that much because they earn it.

Good for Clowe.

It would have been really nice to come home and watch a hockey game tonight. These guys are pissing me off.

Fuck 'em, I'm going to make a trip to the city and catch a Bulls game anyway. NHL isn't the only hockey around.
