If they have another lock out I swear I will not watch another NHL game until they start playing again!

well played Donald Fehr

@saraorlesky: Donald Fehr made point that season could open even w/o a new CBA in place,as long as both sides are negotiating

ie ... if we're not playing in September its the owners fault

Considering the circumstances, the media has been very quiet about this.

Told that the $70.2M cap includes 5-percent bump as authorized by PA...

so as teams are allowed to be 10% over the cap in the summer

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie
Summer cap thus $77.22M

fuck they would be crazy to do that.

That looks good for the BJs. Nash's hit doesn't look too high anymore.

The question I have is if a new CBA is signed and it results in a decrease for the cap ceiling, do all existing contracts get rolled back by the same percentage decrease?

I'm pretty confidant that any cap changes from what LeBrun's reporting will probably take effect at the end of next year.

that's what happened the last time, right?
Wal-mart style rollback across the board?

That looks good for the BJs. Nash's hit doesn't look too high anymore.
same with Luongo's $5.3m. looking pretty manageable.

Well played. It might also lead the Panthers to push a little harder, since they'll need that cap hit.

How comfortable is Gary Bettman today heading into CBA negotiations when a small market team coughs up nearly $200 million worth of contracts?

the owners really dont have a leg to stand on in my eyes.. they got almost everything they wanted last time, and they've spent close to 500 mil in the past 2 weeks (UFA + crosby + staal).. they wouldn't be spending like fiends if they were in trouble financially.. let the coyotes die and lets move on to next season

I am still a little giddy so my thoughts are clouded by the silver cup lining. I think that the season will start on time. I dont think the contract will be complete but I think enough progress will be made that both sides will agree to status quo for this year. The owners have shot themselves in both feet with the UFA contracts thwy have given out and the record league profits. I think both sides see there are some teams in trouble and issue will be how to fix those teams.
