look on the bright side:
it's going to be interesting to hear Burke's obligatory press conference while he is wearing a $1m muzzle
he may quite possibly burst a blood vessel in his big fat irish head

LOL.

I just wonder what he'll do with his tie.

I'm sure this has been brought up here in this massive thread, but here goes.

The owners not wanting to increase revenue sharing is hypocritical beyond belief. The reason there are weaker teams is that they were put there during expansion. When this was happening did the "rich" owners make any noise that many of these markets had obviously poor prospects in the long term? NO. Instead they just let their hired gerbil Bettman put teams wherever the fuck he wanted. What DID the owners do at the time? They collected on fat expansion fees.

Now they won't foot the bill to mitigate the clusterfuck that many of these franchises have predictably become.

I'm not saying that I want the Phoenixes of the league to be thoughtlessly propped up in perpetuity, but the owners made this mess out of their own greed. They should bloody well get around to fixing it.

THIS!!!!

“The message the NHL has sent is that ‘we are stupid,’” he says. The NHL cannot possibly have any other opinion, he says, because the league has previous proof – two earlier lockouts – that the league can treat its fans in a cavalier way and they will always come back.

“That is the calculation they make,” Richelieu says. “When they say ‘We have the best fans in the world’ the presumption is that the fans will come back. That is the best example of insult and marketing myopia I know.

“From a sports-marketing point of view I think the NHL is about to realize that the last word is what the fans have. It is consumer power. When the consumers decide to act, to send a message to the organization, then the organization has no other choice but to change things.”

i really hope the feeling is different when hockey returns this time ... I sense it is but it might only be me and few others that feel differently

last time coming out of a lockout WE WERE THE CATTLE !!! ... we all went back so quickly and paid for tickets that the teams "nobley" reduced prices on by 3% ... THANK YOU SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER!!!

this is about being a consumer and not letting a corporation fuck you and take advantage of your blind loyalty and then charge you for it

if we dont put our foot down now (and our wallets away) as fans ... when will we?

I am very happy to say that I have not bought a single game ticket and only 1 piece of NHL merchandise since the last lockout (hat was on sale).

That trend will continue for me.

We'll see, jstew, I think a lot of people still cling hard to the belief that you need to support the team through thick and thin regardless of how many times they screw you over. As hockey is so ingrained in the Canadian fabric, I see a good majority of Canadian fans returning to NHL arenas. The hockey fan in Winnipeg is so delighted to have a NHL team back in their city that they'll flock back in droves. I think it will be a different story in Vancouver and Calgary, though (fans will be back, but I think sell-out streaks will likely end).

sent to Canucks today

Things are not looking good for any season at all. Its very disappointing that we are being ignored from the NHL in general. Not The Canucks. I believe the Canucks ownership does not want this, but for us to blindly just give our money to this greed is overwhelming for the 10s of thousands of dollars I have given over the years just for tickets and playoffs AND for food, beer, jersey's (I have 15 of them), costs of parking, transportation to games local restaurant support and tipping the Rogers Arena staff. I was thinking since I have been coming to games back as far as I can remember I think I can easily say I have spent over a small fortune on NHL hockey and the Canucks. Im really trying to understand why when this is the 3rd work stoppage in Gary Bettmans tenure. The problem I am having with this is I dont believe at all all owners are in this together but its controlled by a small group or power owners. They are killing any momentum over the last few years this league has had and really hurting the Canucks window of opportunity to win a cup. One that should have been won in 2011 sigh.

You do a great job <to my Rep> and Im sure this is impacting your finances as well with shorter work weeks but at least the Canucks have not done mass layoffs as some other teams have. I dont see any resolution in the near future for the 2 sides and that is very sad. The NHL will be damaged by this one for some time and the longer this goes the more apathy I have for it myself. That may not mean much to the NHL and Canucks but it certainly should. I hope for an end to the lockout but am now hoping that the entire season is cancelled so I can just save money and then revisit what I will do for future support.

Hope the canucks somehow stay in touch with their fans as its been really quiet from the team which is surprising. If I dont hear from you Have a Happy Holidays to you and your family.

I believe the leagues last offer had upped revenue sharing quie a bit 200 mil
The issue is still money. Players want no linkage and auto raises league wants 50 with a two year slush fund of (i forget the amount) set dollars. The PA thinks the slush fund should be triple the leagues amount.
That is part of the reason Fehr wants contract stuff done first. He doesnt want the compromise on money to include a compromise with contracts. The league is saying if the players give on money they will give on contracts

Then become a Kings fan. They are having hockey clinics and charity games and a letter like the one above would have gotten a personal call from Luc. Several season ticket holders have received live calls from him already. Kings know if they dont respect their fans they could end up losing them like in Anaheim.

I know that well. When the Ducks were formed i had a hockey team almost down the street. My wife worked for Disney and said she had enough heart break and asked me to switch as well. I just couldnt do it.
Now my long awaited time to enjoy has been crushed by a cash grab by the owners and a power play by the players who both know that they will get our money until we die
