I suppose he'll be proposing a lower salary cap just for Toronto since all the players want to come there and give a hometown discount.

Or perhaps he'll leave the negotiating session after Bettman and/or Fehr announce no progress has been made and proclaim that they totally coulda gotten something signed tonight but the price just wasn't right and they weren't ready to give up that much yet.

I would guess most of them side with the players personally, though they publicly would probably never say as much.

Might not be for the same reasons as the players, but for a GM, a higher salary cap is a good thing (on most teams at least).

With Howson having made the worst trade since the Yashin deal, he is probably all for letting this season and all subsequent seasons.

I think it's obvious the players are sick & tired of Bettman just like the fans. I hope something gets done, but I just don't see a deal happening to save the season. There doesn't seem to be much give & take.

@reporterchris: It sounds like the NHLPA is looking for a discussion on economics and player contracting rights tonight. Not sure how long it will last.
