Penguins owner and Hall of Fame center Mario Lemieux will receive the Order of Canada Friday in Ottawa in a ceremony conducted by Canada governor general Michaelle Jean.
Lemieux was appointed to the order, one of the highest civilian honors, in December. He is the third hockey player to receive it, along with Wayne Gretzky and Willie O'Ree. The Order of Canada recognizes achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation.
A native of Laval, Quebec, Lemieux received the Order of Quebec in 2009
