Sitting in Caribou in Oakland (in town for Ms. 46 defense) and it is morose. The talk here is very sad and depressing. The team is very good Nd blowing it up would be a big mistake IMO. They got to the conference finals. Some patience and well placed moves are all it needs. I also think that firing Disco Dan would be a huge mistake.

The value would be significantly lower if they wait until next offseason and he's unsigned. I don't think one bad series is going to affect his value more than him being unsigned.

If they play out next season they're not going to get anything for him. Teams will just wait until July 1st to sign him for free. The time to trade Letang or Malkin is now. Every team will be at the draft. Every team will have some idea as to what direction they want to go. The Penguins need to decide quickly about their team. The time is now, not at the deadline. If they keep both players it says they're going for it & will attempt to sign them both to long term extensions. This really isn't a complicated situation. It all depends on whether or not they can fit everybody they want to keep under the cap ceiling.

When you look at the team for next year, they can fit everyone under that cap fine...it's the year beyond that in which they'll have a LOT of questions. That's why I think moves will be made this year. That and the lack of draft picks. Move Letang, get a big return (100% agree that only happens this offseason), and they're still a competitive team. Hopefully they find a way to move MAF. I'd be okay giving him another chance, BUT, not with that cap hit.

Crosby-Kunitz-Dupuis
Malkin-Neal-Bennett
Sutter-Kennedy-Jokinen
Adams-Vitale-Glass
Orpik-Martin
Despres-Niskanen
Murray-Bortuzzo

That's a lineup with Dupuis, Kennedy, and Murray resigned, and not accounting for a potential return on any deals. It's not horrible. It could use big time tweaking, but just making the point that with minimal movement, it's a competitive team. Team doesn't need to be blown up, but I do think they need a new sense of direction *coughCOACHcough*

But hey, step one in my head is complete...Meloche is gone.

I have a hard time believing Dupuis & Murray will be resigned. We shall see. If they resign both of them keeping Letang & Malkin doesn't seem likely unless Dupuis & Murray take a discount.

Dupuis would be the hard one. I could see getting Murray back on a decent deal. Dupuis is a family man, that the only advantage the Pens have in this one.

Bylsma would be an oustanding coach on a small market, cap floor team. But he doesn't untilize his stars properly. He doesn't know how to maximize the potential on this team. That's why he needs to go.

Pens aren't in trouble capwise next season - it's 2014/2015 that will be trouble. I think Dupuis takes a discount to stay, he talked a lot about family and community in the post-season pressers.

Overall, I wouldn't read too much into what Bylsma or anyone else says regarding Fleury. Actions speak louder than words, and Bylsma played Vokoun. I think he's trying to rebuild Fleury's confidence and pump his value.

Gonchar just signed a 2 year 10M deal with Dallas. Murray is going to get paid. Some team is going to offer Dupuis a big contract because of the season & playoff performance he had. The question is how high are the Penguins willing to go with both players & how many years.

Pittsburgh should have fired Bylsma last week. No head coach has done less with more in recent memory.

I think Dupuis should do the smart thing and take less money to remain in a pretty good situation in Pittsburgh.

/In other words, don't do the Anson Carter.

Money talks though. Dupuis is 30. This is his chance at a big payday. He might have a difficult decision to make.

Dupuis just turned 34 in April. He made 1.5mil this past season. If he really wants to stay in Pittsburgh, he'll take something like a 3yr deal for about 10mil. He's really not first line material and definitley won't be at the beginning of his 3rd year.

Letang is snorting Meth if he thinks he can get 7mil a year.
Malking isn't going anywhere. He won't be traded.
Kennedy is probably gone.
Cooke is def. gone (too much of a headache)
Doubt they'll bring back Morrow, Iginla or Murray.

Try to package Letang and MAF and get the best return you can.

WoW, Dupuis is older than I thought. Take the money buddy.

Gonchar got 5M. Mark Streit wants 5.5M per & he's likely to get it. Timonen got a 1 year 6M deal from Philly. Brian Campbell makes 7M per. Letang will get Suter money from some team. If you think it won't happen be prepared to be surprised.

I would love the Sens to sign Letang just to see Kenny's head explode Scanners-style...

I bet the Panthers offer Dupuis 4 years 20 million - 5 per year in Florida which has no state tax is something I don't think the Penguins can match

He may get Sutter money, but it won't be from Pittsburgh.

Wow, that would be a stellar defense w Karllson and Letang. Not a bad idea. I'd love to see Letang in orange and black, just not at the price it would cost. Shero would laugh at us anyway.

 I was actually thinking of the Sens signing Letang. Awkward...I'm sure I'd grow to like the little Frenchie. Or I'd stab him through the heart with a wooden stake. It's a tossup really.

I'd rather see the Sens trade for him. I'd be curious to see what Murray would give up. Can you imagine Karlsson & Letang on their blueline? DAMN!!

It could create some serious matchup issues with one of those two guys on each of the first two pairings. I just think the Sens money would be better spent on a different type of player who has a more differing style of play than Letang.

It'd be fun to watch though.
