There are WR's who won Olympic medals, TONS of NFLer faster than Metcalfe, even right now 6/7 guys who would dust him, he did football no favors.

"he did football no favors"

I'm pretty sure that he wasn't out there to do "football" favors (whatever that means). Guy wanted to run in a race and he ran in a race. I don't think anybody was under the impression that he was going to challenge for a spot in the Olympics or even qualify for the trials.I was like "don't pull a hammy" but running fast is of part of his job description anyway so who cares. He's a football player, not a Ming vase.

Bolt ran a 9.58 at ~205 lbs. I think the size thing is a bit overstated. It might be one of those things that gets kids disqualified from a discipline because some coach thinks they're "too tall". Not saying Metkalf is that guy but that's the state of youth sports in the US right now. Kids get picked early and they're all doing the elite crap which gives them a huge advantage moving forward. Rest of the kids just say fuck it, I'm hitting my play station.

Who knows what elite NFL athletes could do with proper training

If Metcalf was 6'4" 200 lbs or something that'd be one thing.

He's 6'4" and 235 lbs. Usain is 6'5"/207 lbs but has also been training his whole life for running/speed. Carrying an extra 25-30 lbs 1" less is a LOT.

And of course there's a lot of guys that are picked up by NFL teams that can run faster. Oh guess what? They're dwarves in comparison size wise, and/or barely ever have a good career or are cut and never even make a starting roster. Tyreek Hill is 5'10" and 185... that's hardly comparable to 6'4 at 235 lbs... you need a COMPLETELY different corner/safety to cover the vast difference in size between those two. The fact DK can SOMEWHAT hang period is ridiculous enough. And yes Tyreek can shift/speed his way away from players, DK just flat out tramples/stiff arms a lot of them.

Any denial that size and build has a significant impact on sprinting speed is just plain wrong.
Track and field has specific optimal body types per event just as football does for each position. Anyone that falls outside of optimal range will have some level of disadvantage.

DK Metcalf had a size disadvantage from the get go. Thinking that carrying an extra 60-70 lbs than the rest of the field had no effect is ridiculous.

Anyway, he did fine. Glad it is over and he is healthy. Back to football.

This is pretty much the take today.....

WALNUT, Calif. — DK Metcalf launched slowly from the starting blocks, faded over 100 meters and learned in 10.363 seconds on Sunday that elite football speed does not translate easily to elite track speed.

An All-Pro receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, Metcalf is impressively fast for a football player. He delivered one of the most memorable plays of the last N.F.L. season, exceeding 22 miles an hour while wearing his helmet and pads to chase down an Arizona defensive back who intercepted a pass.

But in what he said was his first 100-meter race, Metcalf finished last in his preliminary heat against second-tier professional sprinters and did not qualify for the final at the Golden Games, a tuneup for next month’s United States Olympic track and field trials.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He did get those who never talk track talk some track, that's a good thing. But he was not a good example of NFL speed.
Ah.....the guy who won it all Cravon Gellespie is a first tier USA sprinter, as is Chris Belcher.
You can't decide whether you're arguing for fast Olympic sprinters, fast NFL WRs, or just guys you think are fast but aren't particularly good at either.
What matters is DK is a great WR, he's fast as all hell on the field, and he put up a good show against professional sprinters.
Keep hating, but the film says he did what he set out to do.
Put any of those other sprinters on a football field and they're cut in mini camp.
I seriously doubt his goal was to come in last, he actually believed he could hang with legit sprinters. Where he got that idea?
No football player/sprinters in that race but TONS of world class sprinters have played pro football.
Again, he didn't come in last. He beat 2 professional track athletes.
I don't know why I bother to bring it up since your reaction is extremely predictable, but no he didn't shame himself or football with his showing.
Fast runners who tried and failed in the NFL. These are the players who couldn't hang in the NFL during their prime. This is all from the top of my head. I didn't Google any of it.
Justin Gilber 4.37
Matt Jones 4.37
Kevin White 4.35
Tavon Austin 4.34
Trinden Holliday 4.21/4.35 combine
Don't ignore the wind reading it is huge in sprinting when talking times. DK had + 1.0 that other heat +0.3, that puts that 10,38 ahead of his 10,36. Anytime a pro sprinter runs a 10.44 something was pulled and that guy is far faster than 10.44.
Eh. We've already gone over all of that in detail. I do acknowledge your valid points but am disappointed in your ability to return that same courtesy to others.
Peace out!
