I'm not sure so. Last year DirecTV gave me nothing (either that or they eventually caved...can't remember). I was told I was ineligible due to the fact that I had received so many discounts the 3 years prior totaling some $700+.

I didn't do great last year -- The year before they had the pissing match with whatever company owns comedy central and a few other channels. They were losing customers and they gave us all a great deal. Last year, they didn't give me much on Sunday Ticket, but they did cut a bunch of arbitrary costs -- Things they shouldn't r*pe you on to begin with. Overall it worked out okay, but I am starting to feel that the days of getting anything affordable are numbered.

About a month left to decide. I'll take my time. DirecTV sucks.

Amen. I've had them for 12 years and counting..... And every single year I have hoped their contract with the NFL would expire/terminate/etc..... I've basically been hoping to get rid of them since I've had them.

It depends on two factors, one of which is impossible to answer. The first factor is how good your ISP is..... If you are getting good download speed you will be fine. Until recently I had a crappy DSL connection that couldn't reliably support a subscription to MLBTV -- Buffering, poor picture, etc. I've upgraded and now streaming works appropriately.

The second factor is Directv..... Seems to me that there could be some issues from their side when they first roll out the service.

The free online version that I had last year had some issues during week 1, but it was fine the rest of the season

My experience exactly.

2012 - threatened to leave due to Viacom (Comedy Central, MTV, etc.) and got NFL Sunday Ticket MAX for a total of $100. I didn't give a shit about the Viacom thing, just gave me leverage.

2013 - got nothing. Had to pay full price.

This year...called a few weeks back and got $60 off. She said that is "all they could do right now". I was talking directly to a representative from the retention department. She said to call back in August when I would be eligible for more offers. I haven't gotten a perk from Directv (aside from the aforementioned $60 bucks) in years. Seems the longer you are with them, the less inclined they are to hook you up.

Last year, I called them and told them I was wanting to downgrade my regular channel package and cut my movie package so that I could then afford the NFL SUNDAY TICKET. They did give me a better deal so that I didn't have to pay full price for the ticket and keep my movie channels.
I went psycho ghetto hipster on them, and I have a whiney high pitched voice to begin with.
I said to them:
"Look, I can't afford both my mother effin soy lattes and the **** package with what you are charging for the Sunday Ticket. I can go to the public library and surf **** for free and then take pictures of the screen with my iphone."

I'm currently not under contract with them. I might try for the one year contract ploy. Let's see if I can replicate your success.

Anyone tried to bargain for reduced Sunday Ticket prices this year? I'm getting ready to make my annual call -- They gave me a bunch of 12 month discounts last July (waived HD cost, waived second receiver, 15 off package) and a modest saving on the ticket. Overall I was pleased. Now I'm staring at a big jump in my bill and need some ideas for negotiation. I think we're still at least a year away from Directv offering streaming for everyone.

I've had Directv for over ten years and they would not work with me on a deal in regard to the price. The only thing they would do for me was to give me a break on the prime channels like HBO, Showtime, etc. I've read that this is the last year for the NFL package and that the NFL is going to be asking for a HUGE amount to renew the package. With ATT buying out Directv, I'm sure they will come up with something, but I refuse to pay over $300. I'm also pissed that they cannot get a deal done with the PAC12 network.

Just got my Direct TV bill. They already have me signed up for NFL Sunday ticket and started adding price on my Aug. Bill. I didn't even get a chance to work my magic.

Just got off the phone with Directv:

*got an additional $10 off for 6 months

add that to the previous offer of $10...

$329.94
-120
_____________

$209.94 for the package this year.

Not real happy and I expressed that to the CSR (in the "promotional department". Rep said it was the same as the retention department).

He offered Showtime for 6 months, paperless billing, etc.

I have no interest in that. I told him I was without a contract and will explore other options in regard to providers. Even stated that I would be more willing to enter into a contract if I could get more concessions towards Sunday Ticket.

That didn't move the needle at all. I will try one more time in the next couple of weeks.

Guess I'm not calling today. Ugh.....

My problem is that I'm already getting $15 off per month and a $10 HD/DVR fee waived. I'm also getting the second television for free. All of that is set to expire. I'm not sure if they will continue to cut that deal with me AND give me anything of note on the ticket.

I would willingly lock into a contract if they would've brought more to the table than the shit they offered today (and in July).

Now...I am leaning more towards looking for a different provider/Sunday Ticket options in the new year.

Me too..... I've toyed with the idea of just using an antenna and streaming the rest. This brings up some big issues with ESPN though. You can get the WatchESPN app but apparently you need cable or DTV contracts to make it work. I'd only really need it for college hoops and the NBA playoffs.

Cable seems to have the same issues as DTV -- Too many hidden costs.

Just got off the phone with them.

They gave me $15 off my regular package.... I was getting this last year as well after calling last summer.

They stopped giving me free HDR service which I was getting from last year. That will cost me $10.

They would only offer $50 dollars off the total cost for Sunday ticket.

I'll give them one more call before the season starts.... But my current plan is to drop them in January.

Just called DirecTV. The guy offered me a 20% discount for a price of $192. I asked what the original price was, he said $240. I knew right away that was the normal Sunday Ticket package and not the max. So, I told him, I don't want that, I want the max. He said, oh, okay. Well you're eligible for the max upgrade for free. So I can give you the max for $192 (original is $330).

That was the end of the conversation. Couldn't argue with it.

Bye bye, DirecTv.
