Dion: Leafs are definitely a playoff team

Let's see - I have five teams that I would consider playoff locks in the East - In no particular order, those would be the Caps, Pens, Flyers, Devils, and Bruins.

If we eliminate the Panthers, Isles, and Thrashers, that leaves the Leafs battling with the Sabres, Senators, Habs, Rangers, Bolts, and Canes for the remaining three playoff spots.

I still have the Leafs on the outside looking in (besides Kessel, who's going to score goals for Toronto?)

judging by Phaneuf's proclamation, Sanders might have better insight on hockey.

but what the hell, the leaf's currently have the 2nd highest payroll in the league, so they must be fielding a pretty potent team at all positions, right? ..... right?

i personally do think the leafs have made very nice strides and have undoubtedly improved..... versteeg has decent potential to be a top 6 on a good team, maybe not a geat team but a good team. he won't be a game breaker but he does a good deal to improve the forward depth.... as does macarthur.... if he shows up, and armstrong. i'm going to assume you'll probably see them both in 3rd line rolls.

I'm sticking with it. It not only has to do with the Isles, but how undecided I am about everybody lower than the 4/5 seed in the East.

You should be anxious to see how good your youngsters are with another offseason under their belts. Amazing what having a couple months to reflect and perfect can do to a career just getting started.
