They were very close last year and with the injuries in the East was that their best chance?

Was that their best chance to go to the big dance or will they come back even stronger this year?

Wins/Seed and distance prediction!!!

tough one. imo STILL a match-up nightmare for the Heat. but as far as playoff seeding still #2. should be interesting to see it unfold...

They have to have gotten a little better in the offseason.

Granger comes back, that should be a boost to depth and an upgrade over Lance.

Granger also comes off the books after next season which leaves them open to sign a max contract that season...what if they could get Melo? Melo might even play some D if the rest of the team has sold out on the idea and if he doesn't the rest of their team plays it. That would be a huge boost to scoring.

I think they have as good a shot this year as they did last. However, I think the East will be tougher as a whole through the playoffs (barring key injuries, of course). The Bulls should be back, and the nets should be tougher, so I see these two battling it out with the Pacers for the #2, 3, and 4 spots. I predicts the Pacers and Bulls to get the 2 and 3, in either order, and have a tough second round beating each other down before seeing the Heat. Either team that comes out of that will give the Heat a good run.

Math error...they will not be able to sign a max player next offseason with out losing some pieces.

With their financial limitations this year is their last chance imo. Paul George is going to take about $8m of the Granger money coming off the books. Lance will get a bigger contract than what he has as well.

They are one elite front court player away from being hands down favorite imo. A Melo/Rose/Harden away. Maybe they could find a way to move Granger and some pieces for that.

@Logic

completely agree. East is going to be a lot tougher this year and it will be very hard for the Heat to 3peat.

They are a YOUNG good team. The window is wide open.

The Pacers are mostly a collection of player that have not even entered their prime years.

Miami is a very very OLD team. The Miami roleplayers are ancient.
The stars are middle aged as well. Lebron is a free agent.

I would say they are set up fine to surpass the HEAT within the next 0-2 years.
The other eastern contenders NY and NJ might even be older than the Pacers.

As for the Bulls, I don't really know what Rose is like....so that is more of an incomplete grade.

The PACERS are probably the best futures bet in the east for 2014 and beyond.

Watch out for the Cleveland Cavaliers!

I, and I suspect many other non-Clevelanders, would love seeing them do well WITHOUT Le Unethical James.

It could happen soon with Kyrie Irving and friends maturing.

That creep's behavior his last year with Cleveland may have been within the letter of the law, but unethical types
tend to be more attentive to the letter than the spirit.

I think the Cavaliers could be good soon if they can stay healthy. I think the Pistons are going to coming on too, reviving the Detroit-Cleveland rivalry (not that it went away, just that neither team has been relevant for a few years outside of the punchline of jokes). The Wizards are another team that could be up and coming.

Idk if they miss their chance but it will be tougher to make the finals this year. This year instead of just getting through Miami, they will have to get through 2 more teams in addition to Miami

What are you "loling" about? NFL, MLB, NBA are all crapshoots once you get to the playoff except the 7,8 seed really. Anyone can win it from 1-6 seed. Looks like you never watch sports as usuall

I think by crapshoot he means this sport's championship system has less variance than any other sport I can think of. Hence it is a crap shoot for GSW fans :D

For anyone really. It's all about dem matchups

MLB and NFL are crapshoots....The NBA not close to being a crapshoot. When one of the top 3 seeds from either conferences are winning the title yearly it is not a crapshoot. Anyone can win from 1-6 seed? Really? When is the last time a 5 or 6 seed won an NBA championship or even made a finals? I can't remember the last time a 4 seed won a title either. I know the 2010 Boston team was a 4 seed and made the finals but did not win it. Just about every year it is one of the top 3 seeds winning the title.

I look like I never watch sports. Tell me when is the last time a 5 or 6 seed made and won an NBA championship.

On the topic of Indiana, I wasn't aware that Indiana ever had a legitimate chance. They was a good team, and they fought like championships, but honestly they really never had enough power to get the job done. They just didn't
