The Rams can't compete without a QB. Hopefully this trade remedies that for the next decade or more. WR help can be added later in the draft and next year on day 2.
It's not like this draft is top heavy with WR talent. The closest comp for the top guy (Treadwell) seems to be a young Kenny Britt. Do we need a slightly better Kenny Britt? The Britt we have should be slightly better with better QB play. TE doesn't have that sure-thing top prospect either. Even with only two 4s and 2 6s left, the Rams should still be able to add decent C, WR, and TE prospects in this draft, leaving 1 pick for the defense (CB/S?). They may still be able to add a pick or two by trading an excess QB or 2 as well.
If their QB choice tanks, of course it's a huge problem. However, if they think they have their guy, they have to trust their instincts. You've got to think they have their guy to make this big of a move to get him.
