If he really wanted to make a point for his whole team to pay attention to, then he would have went straight to His Captain and started ripping asses from there to each goaltender. In my opinion if you put it out there what each player is under performing in, then it makes the rest of the team more concious of where the weaknesses are and how to strengthen them. To just start a mindless rambling cursing tirade is just having a opposite effect. It also makes him sound like a Flyers fan!

A collection of my thoughts from the other thread

"I liked the show but I did find it to have a bit of a "contrived" feel to it. No more contrived than any other "reality" series, but a bit so, none the less."

"I mean, "reality" TV is contrived. When you put cameras around people and you take about 80 hours of raw footage (estimate) and you edit it down to an hour, what true "reality" is left. I felt like the in-game stuff was pretty damn real, but I am not sure if the locker room stuff is typical or a bit different. You can not ignore cameras.

It followed the typical protocol.

1. Guys are tough and playing through injuries.
2. Tough guy has sweet side (backstrom, alzner, carlson at ice rink, pens christmas party)
3. Pro athletes are regular guys (hannan looking for a house, dupuis with his litter of kids)
4. There is pressure.
5. New kids get hazed.
6. Team jokester plays a joke.
7. Injured guys wanna play (gordon showing up sick, malkin wanting to practice)
8. Hockey has fighting....golly gee!!!

Rinse and repeat. It is fun to watch but it is hardly introspective or fresh, but it really can't be."

"...and before I get blitzed by people, i am not trying to bash it, it is a great watch, just not some earth shattering new idea....I DO enjoy it immensely..."

"I wondered why Pascal Dupuis was driving a Chevy while John Carlson was driving a 600 series Benz....then I saw his litter."

I thought the dialogue, before during and after the Ovechkin fight was very interesting, however. Clearly it was a "statement" fight and I see it completely differently now. Dubinsky knew what it was, seemed to be fine with it, and Ovie, maybe not one for words, makes his points on the ice. I have seen that before. I have DONE that before, and it is usually as effective as you can be. I took that as a good sign of his captaincy.

I would have liked to see more out of Ovie and Sid as vocal leaders, but it is not really Sid's thing (or is it) and he and the Pens were riding high. We will see more in this episode maybe. Backstrom (supposedly) is the more vocal, locker room guy for the Caps but I saw nothing of his tirade.

I am more interested in the between players dialogues than the coaches speeches, as having been in a locker room and been a captain for the vast majority of my hockey time, it is usually more meaningful.

Maybe they should all shut up, quit acting like rockstars and play some hockey. I would like to think my coach would pull the plug on some meaningless TV show before having to resort to fuck filled tirades.
