I hope we don't get rolled tomorrow. Coach is shifting the lines around to try and spread out our biggest bodies. I think this is a good idea, because we're going to need to take a risk to beat Philly, they're just too good, and too hot at this point for us to just assume what got them past Florida will handle Philly. A game 1 win would be very, very beneficial obviously.
I was one of few that was worried about Florida. I think Flyers are way better than the Panthers. After what I saw in Flyers and Penguins series, I thought Flyers will win the cup this year. Was hoping to avoid them this round.
Devils struggle against teams like Florida and Philly. They match up way better against teams like Washington and Penguins.
Keys to series.
1) Discipline. No stupid retaliation penalties.
2) Special teams play
3) Marty needs to outplay Bryz
4) Kovy and Parise absolutely have to have a huge series. I want to see the Kovalchuk we saw in the regular season. I want to see Parise stop missing a half empty net. He needs to finish plays. Elias has had a lot of success against the Flyers. Hope it continues. I thought he also had a weak series in round 1.
5) Match the physical play of Flyers - Here we need guys like Clarkson who I expected more from against the Panthers. I think this series suits his style better. Also 4th line needs to continue what it did in round 1 without of course taking penalties. Zubrus and Poni need wear down the defense along the boards.
If the Devils fail at number 1, nothing else matters and it will be quick series.
Let's just stay positive. What team needs is confidence, including PK where we were the best in NHL this year but worst in 1st round. Flyers play with high speed which was their key to succeed with Pens. We should do good fore-check as we did in some Panthers game and I strongly agree with rp2five that we will have to wear down the defense along the boards. Let's Go Devils!!!
I think the team has confidence, but they are more worried coming into this series compared to round 1. That can be a good thing. Round 1, our fans were over confident and to an extent, especially after that fast start in game 1, the Devils were over confident.
Penalty kill unit will bounce back. They need to stay as aggresive as they did in regular season. Lots of bad bounces, broken sticks, etc led to a horrible showing against Florida. Few long range goals too.
3 PM can't get here soon enough.
I already memorized every line on NHL network this morning.
By the way, almost everybody is picking against the Devils. Great postion to be the underdogs. You know the players are reading and watching all this.
have to hope the refs call a TIGHT game the flyers are going to push the refs as far as they can and get away with as much as they can. so if the powerplay gets 5 chances today 2 goals would be nice...might make the flyers think twice about being physical.
but rp your right i dont want to see stupid retaliation penalties from say clarkson or salvador.
the way the flyers took out the pens they are the clear favorites in the east but they still have a whack job in goal who knows what bryz shows up.
That's the way I'm looking at it. As for Bryz dominating us, 1 of the games was our first of the season so that barely counts. That game is a coinflip anyway. Other than that he had 2 good games against us, nothing to panic over.
Not bad of a start. Penalty kill seems back to normal. Flyers look rusty. Now please no let down like we saw every game last round. Last half of that period, flyers picked it up.
