NPV, from what I’ve read, is $29M/yrThis is my thought, but the counter arguments (many of which you make yourself) that 31M in ‘33 =/= 31M in ‘25, and apparently, lots of that money is deferred, so it isn’t actually 31M in ‘33.

Agreed, but Soto is the superior player. Not necessarily the superior HITTER though.Murph just made a great point on KNBR…
Look at what the Nats got for Soto from the Pads. This was not that.
Might be true. The deal still has to get done. I’m reading now that the Giants were one of four teams in on Devers (Jays, Pads, another team)….Buster is a PIMP.Interesting that Krukow recently told posey that Harrison had the best upside of all the young pitchers
Kind of. But the other way of looking at it is — how many more games would we have won with Harry/Hicks/Tibbs and the payroll flexibility. It's a win if Devers produces, that's all we need to win the trade. Because then we win more games and are better able to compete for titles.
Good god you guys are nuts. The Giants are not a team that can just outspend and outdevelop everyone especially with hitting. They have to take shots. This trade needed to happen and if Devers produces that is the win, full stop. Pitching we got already. Like you keep pointing out, he could/should be the best hitter we've had since Bonds. If he hits like that we win the trade.Kind of. But the other way of looking at it is — how many more games would we have won with Harry/Hicks/Tibbs and the payroll flexibility.
Right so stop worrying about what the guys we gave up from surplus might do. It no longer matters to us.Although to be clear: when a HOF bat becomes available you move mountains to get him. Buster did the right thing here, especially since FA bats aren’t generally won’t sign in SF.
Bruh…I’m not “worrying,” just pointing out the way to evaluate the trade down the road.Good god you guys are nuts. There's no need to 'evaluate the trade down the road'Bruh…I’m not “worrying,” just pointing out the way to evaluate the trade down the road.
For the fifth time: you make this trade every single time. He’s a HOF bat. And….
Soto only had 2 years of control when that trade was made, and the Nats got 3 potential face-of-the-franchise level players in return. We sent 1 potential FotF to Boston.Agreed, but Soto is the superior player. Not necessarily the superior HITTER though.
Sounds like the relationship with the Boston FO was just beyond toxic. And there is a history of the Boston FO fostering a toxic atmosphere with their star players.Bruh…I’m not “worrying,” just pointing out the way to evaluate the trade down the road.

Dude is 28. WAY too early to take his jacket measurements or lock the door to him. There's no need to 'evaluate the trade down the road'
If Devers hits for a few years, we won the trade. If he doesn't, we didn't even though it was still the right risk to take. What Harrison does or doesn't do no longer has any effect on us.
I don't see HOF for him though, never sniffed an MVP or led the league in much of anything (in 2019 led the league in total bases and doubles that's it. Hall of very good is enough for us.
I agree 100% but none of his production in his 20s looks like HOF resume. He's never been one of the best players in the league, and his numbers are very very good but not HOF good. He is having one of his best years ever this year, but of course hitting in SF is different than Boston, especially for lefties. Doesn't change my enthusiastic approval of the trade.Dude is 28. WAY too early to take his jacket measurements or lock the door to him.
I tend to agree that he likely won’t be a HOFer, but there are lots of pages still to be written in his book.
I personally don't see any of those 3 as potential FotFSoto only had 2 years of control when that trade was made, and the Nats got 3 potential face-of-the-franchise level players in return. We sent 1 potential FotF to Boston.
Gore looks Webb-esqueI personally don't see any of those 3 as potential FotF
Devers is a great bat, but mediocre glove. He does have a good arm. His problem is always been lack of concentration in defense. I have seen him play a lot living here in Massachusetts. He was a fan favorite despite his fielding due to his hitting until this season when he refused to play first after their starting first baseman got injured. He is also known to run to first lazily. He is only 28 and is signed long term.
Money aside, no. Though…I honestly don't know anything about the players the Red Sox got in return but I don't think they are worth a Devers, right?
Money aside, no. Though…
Harrison may be a future CY level pitcher.
Tibbs looks to have a superior bat, but no glove whatsoever.
Bello is a lottery ticket (we have never heard of him ourselves, and we are extremely plugged in on this forum).
You guys taking Hicks was part of OUR haul, not yours.
The money is serious, though. So Giants won this trade
The money is serious, though.
Feels like the win was Boston’s FO unloading a disgruntled player’s contract, not the incoming talentSo Giants won this trade
