Big difference I see between this trade and the Beltran/Wheeler trade was that Beltran was a half season rental. Devers will be hear for possibly 8 years. If he can continue hitting well for the next 3 years, it would likely be a win for the Giants no matter how Harrison turns out. And yes, I said that about a Giants' prospect. However, it will hurt if Devers gets too entitled and stops hitting at the same level. I don't think that will happen but it could happen and that would sting in the future (unless Harrison flops).
Like I said in that other reply, no risk free moves this big. Really good risk of the type you have to make to win titles

So stoked, management is willing to make moves and spend money

Yeah, the prospect cost AND the taking on of the full salary feels steep. Guess Posey felt it was worth the get. We will see. He will be good but not sure what the long term will look like. As I said earlier, if we get at least 3 more prime Devers' offensive years, it will likely be worth it even if Harrison turns out to be a stud.
How Harrison performs almost doesn't matter to me, this is about US winning games not winning the trade. Good luck to him Mazel tov, I'm not going to hope he plays bad so we 'win'

We won. Reinforcing exactly what we need with a prime age all star bat

stands at oracle have been pretty full recently, maybe 30k plus. a lot of tickets are heavily discounted and season sales have lagged. big price tag for devers , but if this move puts the Gs as solid contenders there is more revenue on the table than they seen in many years

And this player wasn't really on my radar as available. I thought Boston would stick with him, despite being at odds with him at times. I was very wrong on that. It does look like a win for the Giants.

And that is why I said that if Devers continues to hit in the next three years like he does now, it will be a win. He hits like his prime, we will win games (unless there are a rash of injuries or other players start getting lazy).

He is going to have to improve his production to match the contract. Recently, he has been about a 3.5 WAR player. Inaccurately rule of thumbing, that makes him worth approx 22.5M per.

It's just money still, we get WINS for this. And it changes the whole dynamic, the lineup, everything. The WAR per $ thing doesn't matter to me if he hits and we win more games and have enough for a title shot.

If part of Adames problem was the pressure of being the “RBI guy” or “production guy” the Devers signing should help relieve that pressure. At least I’m hoping so.

Flores going to be the big loser here in at bats

That Wilmer was playing every day and batting 3rd or 4th showed that the Giants were desperate. Now the Giants don't need to do that anymore. He wouldn't be an everyday player anywhere else except maybe the Rockies.

And he did great! But it was not sustainable. His season was a house of cards that couldnt support the team.

Yup. I give him credit for using every ounce of ability he had to play that well for the first month and a half of the season. You're right that it's not sustainable. He was way overperforming and I think it was only a matter of time before his OPS dipped below. 700. Now that he can play less and platoon, maybe it will stay above .700.
