Sounds like it. Hope he pans out, the last power forward the Kings took was a bust (Jens Karlsson). Of course Albatross Al Murray was the Scouting Director at that time, and from 1997-2004 or so his track record went down his steadily so take that into account - pretty hard to screw up a 1st round pick but the Kings did just that several times during that span because of that man.
Interesting read on the puck possession, the Kings have been in the top 2 in possession the last 4 years. Possession doesn't always lead to goals (the Kings have proven that as well time and time again) but at least it improves the chances by having the puck in the first place.
The Kings keep their possession skills and techniques under close wraps to not let on how they do it, I'd be interested to catch a session and observe. Been around the game for almost 4 decades, I'm pretty sure I would pick some subtle stuff out that maybe someone else would not but my initial thoughts are it's mostly about shielding the puck as the core basis. Thus the board work we are so used to seeing and bigger guys being implemented on the team.
Pretty slow summer around LA this season, thanks for giving us some reading material.
Agreed, he was something to watch protecting that puck.
I remember seeing Shea Weber going in on him full bore, Frolov firmed up, stuck his ass out and Weber went bouncing off him. Frolov held on, cycled some more, sent it to Conroy and he one timed it into the net. Weber is a big, big man too, shows you how powerful Frolov was. Wish he was as motivated to play every night as he was some nights, he was dominant.
One of the few picks Murray actually got right in that stretch, his track record otherwise was pretty bad between those 7-8 years ultimately leading to him being fired.
