DETROIT -- You might see J.D. Martinez back playing for the Detroit Tigers this time next weekend.

That remains a big if, dependent upon his rehabilitation stint with Triple-A Toledo, but Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Friday Martinez could re-join the team near the club by the end of the team's nine-game home stand.

Both Zimm and Norris has started rehab
Still want to see some sort of addition to the bullpen. But those are three nice adds right there.

In all reality Detroit has three roster spots available for replacement.

1. Molleken
2. Lowe
3. Sanchez

Lowe and Sanchez's contracts will have to be eaten if they release him. All three in the pitching ranks by the way.

Offensively I can't see a replacement that makes any sense for what they have to give up.

I get the feeling they are going to bring Jimenz up in a few weeks and that will be the bullpen pickup.

So in all reality I see one spot available for a reliever. They could garner another if they want to send Boyd down but I am not sure I trust Palfrey as the #5. Norris will be questionable as well and Boyd gives them some dependability. Although I would have included Boyd in a package for Sonny Gray if he was available, which the A's say he isn't.

Dave D gutted this organization and Chadd didn't draft lights out. Using first and second round picks for FA pickups don't help.

Agreed, with Martinez back if healthy we shouldn't see Aviles until at least Sept.....No need putting him in the game.....Maybin and Upton and JD can play 4 weeks in a row without a day off....

Sorry....this is going to piss everyone off.

I find it very sad that the fans of the Detroit Tigers see the (possible) return of three injured players as "gains" made at the trade deadline. THAT is where Mike Ilitch and the Tiger front office and their media arm win and continue to deceive fans. So...was this a PLAN? Get a couple of key players injured and have them return around the end of July and pretend we, somehow, IMPROVED the team?

Keep saying that to yourself while other teams put ADDITIONAL players on their rosters to help their run to the playoffs. Someone here said - now we don't need to play Mike Avila. Other teams will be dropping their Mike Avilas and adding Jonathan LuCroy or Carlos Beltran, or Josh Reddick. Detroit will still have to decide between Sanchez and Pelfrey (IF Norris is healthy) as their fifth starter. Other playoff contenders are ADDING pitchers via trade to their rotation.

Sorry...I refuse to accept less. And worse, be told that what I already had is an INCREASE!

I don't think we could get Gray without hamstringing the current team tbh. He's having a poor season but he's logged enough success that his value should still be very high. Norris/Boyd/Moya maybe, and I don't want to see both young lefties go for a guy that isn't on top of his game at the moment.

But I think we could go after Rich Hill. (Billy would trade anyone if he felt the return value outweighs what he's giving, imo. It'd suck to be an As fan.)

Hard to see Ilitich signing off on Sanchez being released. That's a lot of money over multiple seasons.

Rondon can go down. I wouldn't mind that one bit. Lol

I'm sure Collins will go down when Martinez is back.

But he has more value imo.

Good to see Maybin back and healthy. Gonna need him if this team honestly is going to make a playoff push.

What's the word on JD, Zim and Norris?

It is pretty amazing how important he has been for the Tigers. To think, I was hoping Anthony Gose would have a breakout year. Sometimes you never know until it happens. Maybin has become one of my favorite Tigers.

If they comeback healthy and ready, JD, Zim and Norris are big additions. I would not make any trades at the deadline unless we can trade one of our useless people for prospects or draft picks.

Can't really trade draft picks in baseball. You can trade for "Competitive Balance Draft Picks", but that has limitations and rules attached.

His BABIP is .387, so I don't think his current numbers are going to hold all season. But he's a real nice all around player. And very important when we don't have another centerfielder.

I was right with you on Gose. Thought he definitely had the talent to be a solid everyday player. He might, but his head is getting in the way.

So we have 3 guys who are the 25th man on the roster currently?

Id think it's one of the relievers who do the Toledo Shuffle personally.

Inge and Raburn weren't that guy.

I realize that most of you think I am an old man who bitches too much and picks on people and yells "get off my lawn" at the drop of a pin. But, I am sorry, the Tigers are a poorly run ballclub. Sure they have a collection of talented (perhaps declining talent?) but the overall structure and running of the organization is awful and has been for several years. I'd pinpoint the obtaining of Fielder from Mil as a key moment...but the decline was already beginning if I recall. Regardless....I remain torn....half of me hopes the Tigers somehow stumble into the post-season. Yet the other half sees that it might be more beneficial in the long run, if they don't.

BTW...does anyone else notice that if the Tigers were SELLERS right now...they'd have little to SELL? Either mammoth contracts would block (Zimmermann/Miggy/Verlander/VMart) them or their players are too young (Fulmer/Norris/Casty). All they'd have to offer are guys like Kinsler, over-priced JD, over-valued Iggy, and Maybin.

No, Inge and Raburn had to work their way down to 25th guy. LOL (Many on this site helped)

I'd loose Lowe, but $ speaks, so that Molotov(?) guy goes first and THEN they have the Lowe/Rondon choice.
As for Aviles/Romine/Collins....I just don't care. Collins give you a lefty bat and a 'finger'...but...????

I think you try to agitate 90% of the time. (It works a lot, I get it. I do it too. But I also like when you give your honest opinion on baseball. Cuz you know baseball.)

I like when you have posts like the one above. And consider you prolly just a tick older than my Dad, who I don't consiser old at all. (He does get off my lawnish sometimes though. Lol)

Right with you on having very little to sell if we were sellers. (I was cool with dealing Kinsler last year for cheap young talent. Would much rather see him go into the final year of his contract as a Tiger now.). We did last year and that really worked out well for the Tigers in the longrun. We'd be in a bad spot had they somehow been at or a little over .500 late last July.

I don't think we have enough to make a splash move as a buyer either. (The Sales, Grays and any other non rental are off the table unless you want to move Fulmer or Nicky C imo.). I think we could add reliable bullpen help though. And it could be a younger guy in the system who most all of us aren't even familiar with that could do it. A lot of teams wouldn't mind saving a Mil or two at this point for a player they could plug in at HighA or AA without hopes of future stardom.

I don't want to see Avila chase something that would mortgage the future. But a vet bullpen arm would take a lot of pressure off Wilson, Greene and Frankie. (Was glad Ausmus didn't put KRod in for a third day in a row on Thursday. Gladder that it worked out. Lol.)

I think Inge could've been a nice utility guy. But Inge didn't.

Collins(and this may or may not be backed up statistically. Idk) is a decent outfielder that I don't mind at any of the three spots. And am just fine with in left or right. I like him as a baserunner also. He's kinda stocky but can move.

None of em are hitting much. Which sucks. But Id rather take an out than give one up. (I'm looking at you Moya.)

Toledo Mud Hens 6, Gwinnett Braves 2 (box)

Jordan Zimmermann threw 78 pitches in his second rehab start with the Mud Hens, and limited the Braves to two runs (one earned) in four innings. Zimmermann’s final line wasn’t particularly shiny — he allowed six hits and walked two to one strikeout — but he told reporters after the game that he expects to make his next start in a Tigers uniform.

The Tigers have stayed in contention, even made up some ground, without Zimmerman and JD Martinez and Norris. These are three quality players it will only add to the lineup.

You just complain too much Iffy but it seems to be what you're best at.

.

I am glad you are satisfied that the Tiger front office has been able to ADD to the team. (I guess when I get my suit back from the cleaners, that ADDS to my wardrobe?)

If the Tigers go on to the post-season, I will remember that great work Avila and Company did at the trade deadline (and before, when the players initially were injured) and hope he gets a raise.
