I put this over on the AL Central thread to the local idiot homer.

....BTW....while Detroit is capable of catching Cleveland, my worry is, that in the next few days, the Tribe will add someone like Jonathan LuCroy, Jay Bruce, or even Andrew Miller of the Yankees. Meanwhile, the Tigers will not be able to add anyone from outside the organization to help. Man...wouldn't Chapman, Miller, or even Jeanmar Gomez of the Phillies been a nice add to the Tiger bullpen. Luckily they have Mark Lowe!!!!

I just read that one of our top prospects, Beau Burrows, is injured. So it appears that what Avila recently said about not being involved in any deadline trades, is probably true. Ha! You'd think they could at least release Mark Lowe. Addition by subtraction?

Sure, would love to have another bat, but without arms were not going to make it......Maybe there goal is out score everyone......It can work in the regular season, but come playoff time big league pitchers on quality teams limit runs.

The Tigers are among the teams that have talked to the Brewers about catcher Jonathan Lucroy, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. Detroit may not have the farm system depth to swing a trade for Lucroy, but you can't blame them for trying. James McCann and Jarrod Saltalamacchia have combined to hit .202/.278/.356 on the season, so it's easy to understand why the Tigers are looking to upgrade behind the plate.
McCann was huge this series.

And he's great at what a catchers job is, catching.

They need a starter and a reliever. Not more offense.

I want to add another thing. If Miggy has another month long slump, this team won't survive. It is CRUCIAL that it doesn't happen again this season. Who else agrees?
He's hitting .300 with 21 homers.

Kinsler, Nick and Victor are all flirting with similar numbers. (Not OBP wise, as Nick hates to draw walks like he's Torii Hunter or some shit.)

Listening to Red Sox announcers the last few days was interesting. They honestly laughed at the idea he's having a down year. (Then also said pitching him down and away in the ninth was smaht. So take it with a grain of salt I guess.)

Lot bigger issues than Miggy not having Triple Crown season imo. Like having two relief pitchers, sometimes three, that aren't garbage time guys.

No way the Tigers were ever going to bring Chapman in. Mr. I ain't dealing with his baggage.

And I don't blame him.

White Sox gonna deal Robertson?

I think Mr. I and the Tigers could put up with Chapman for 2+ months to be the 8th inning guy. But I was just using him as an example anyway. The Tribe will probably add a good player by Aug 1....Detroit probably won't. Boston is adding pieces like crazy while DD laughs his head off knowing he left a rival team with nothing to barter with. Just a shame...Detroit is desperate for pitching, starting and relief, and can only sit and watch.

Did not realize that both AAA Toledo and AA Erie are last in their respective leagues. Hi A Lakeland isn't last but is under .500. At least A league, Western Michigan Whitecaps are playing well, with a shot at the playoffs in their league. Their two Gulf Coast Rookie League teams are also under .500. Their short season team in Connecticut is one game over .500.

Gutted by DD and Co.? Poor draft picks? Slow development of players? Poor coaching? Just plain old bad luck?

I don't.

Miggy got a pass because he's a HOF talent and was already on the team. Relationships were in place. There was a sense of responsibility in a lot of ways I'm sure. Financial definitely being a major one though.

I really doubt Avila would have been green lighted to work on a deal for AC.

No ammo or not.

STARTING PITCHERS
Detroit Tigers
LH Matt Boyd (1-2, 4.63 ERA)
Lifetime vs. Astros: 0-0, 9.00 ERA in 1 start

Houston Astros
RH Collin McHugh (7-6, 4.18 ERA)
Lifetime vs. Tigers: 0-2, 3.72 ERA in 3 starts

Lefty Matt Boyd takes the mound for Detroit, his fourth straight start in the rotation as Jordan Zimmermann (neck) and Daniel Norris (oblique) continue to rehab. Boyd is coming off a three-run, five-hit outing Saturday at Chicago that lasted 4 1/3 innings, though he was only charged with one earned run.

* Boyd has only given up two earned runs and struck out 17 in his last 15 1/3 innings. Longevity continues to be a problem, as he's only pitched beyond the sixth inning once in eight starts this season.

Tigers Teeing off on Mchugh......Boyd isn't fairing much better.....Think were going to see a lot of bullpen from sides before this one is over....Maybe neither pitcher makes it through the 5th.

Boyd made it through 5 with 100 pitches (yuck) but he did make it.......Color me surprised......Ausmus would have pulled him if the score was reversed....Only left him in because of the big lead and to get him a win.

Good to see Maybin back and healthy. Gonna need him if this team honestly is going to make a playoff push.

What's the word on JD, Zim and Norris?

DETROIT -- You might see J.D. Martinez back playing for the Detroit Tigers this time next weekend.

That remains a big if, dependent upon his rehabilitation stint with Triple-A Toledo, but Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Friday Martinez could re-join the team near the club by the end of the team's nine-game home stand.

Both Zimm and Norris has started rehab
