Anyone but me seeing the possibility that the Tigers come up empty at the trade deadline? I have not heard any rumors about Detroit aiming at certain players...and with their lack of prospect depth, they will have a tough time out-bidding a lot of other teams. (Seems Dombrowski is hard at work draining the Boston minor league system!)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers are left out in getting any sort of "name" player...perhaps only grabbing a waiver pickup or a low risk rental player. Oh well, got to expect problems when a team maxes out their minor league system and stretches their payroll as far as they have.

Another brilliant start for Pelfrey.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton is returning from bereavement leave and outfielder Steven Moya is going back to Triple-A Toledo after a rough Friday in the field and at the plate.

Moya, in his second stint with the Tigers this year, couldn't provide enough power to justify his growing strikeout rate and his struggles in right field. So with Upton set to return Sunday from a two-game absence, the Tigers opted to keep outfielder Tyler Collins on the roster instead of Moya.

Moya had his shot. Appears he will be one of those AAAA type of players. Time to move on to someone else. If he can fill out a trade now, or in the off season...good. Otherwise, let's pretend that veteran vagabond, Alex Presley, is the next shinning star.

Cabrera now 0 for 10 with the bases loaded this year. He and Victor are both scuffling lately.

The entire offense is slipping. Team is now 7th in runs scored in AL and 5th in OPS. The offense needs to have one of those 5-6 game streaks when they score in double figures in almost every game.

The eventual return of Jordan Zimmermann (strained neck) and Daniel Norris (strained oblique) will bolster a starting rotation that was depleted heading into the All-Star break, but that will have to wait at least another week. Norris will pitch a rehab assignment in Toledo on Monday; Zimmermann won't be long after that, manager Brad Ausmus said.
While the struggling Anibal Sanchez (5-10, 6.75 ERA) will presumably return to the bullpen at the nearest opportunity, he'll get at least one more start on Tuesday.

Ausmus said in his postgame interview yesterday that Zimm is still probably 2 weeks away from returning.

MLB trade rumors: Tigers could be parting with prospects at this year's deadline

This is sort of a "homer" view of some Detroit prospects the Tigers could trade for pitching help. Please note that none of these players are listed highly on any prospect lists. Also consider that one of these "trade pieces" is JaCoby Jones who is currently struggling at AAA and has been seen as more of a utility player. Matt Boyd is also listed...and while he still has an upside, his major league work has not been that impressive.

Personally....I'd wait for Norris and JD Martinez to return and pretend those were trade deadline pickups. If Detroit wants to add a cheap rental player - fine. I hear Clay Buchholz is 'out' in Boston. If Boston picks up most of his remaining salary for the year....give him a shot. He can't do much worse than Pelfrey and Sanchez.
