I guess you have an axe to grind. I said Jones might make a good option as a fourth outfielder or as a replacement for Moya if he couldn't handle playing the outfield. Nowhere did I say he would be the ''next great Tiger''.
I have no axe....

I knew Stanton was a beast but geesh......I thought he would pop up a few or foul a few....He went on a tear of bombs......Think he knocked down a cessna with one of them.

Definitely an impressive, record-setting performance.

Meanwhile, in REAL baseball, he's hitting .233 at the Break with 107 strikeouts.

I get the feeling that Detroit may not make a big splash during the trading deadline. They just don't have much to offer. "The cupboard is bare" in the farm system. Both Baseball America and MLB.com updated their Top 100 Prospects...no Tigers on either list.[Remember, if we can see Moya's flaws...so can other teams. So don't expect much more than a defective product in return if we trade him.]

Perhaps Detroit can pick up a starter like Jhoulys Chacin or Ivan Nova. Free agents who are having bad years. Or maybe a 1/2 year rentals like relief pitchers David Hernandez of the Phillies or Daniel Hudson from the D'Backs. Experienced and yet won't cost much due to mediocre year.

Rich Hill

I think Hill will bring a top prospect even as a rental. Tigers would have to create a package that would do a lot of damage to their thin minor league system. Derek Hill, Joe Jimenez, Moya, Mike Gerber....two of those guys from Tigers Top Ten Prospects, might get them to the table. But I am sure some other team will be able to offer more. (as in - better!)

Idk.

He's not much of a big deal. As love to save $5 if they can. Moya would get him imo. Prolly Boyd and AA tbh.

Hector Santiago is a guy I wouldn't mind. Not sure if it was here I talked about it or not. Don't think he'd be that expensive. But he'd beat the hell outta Sanchez ery fifth day.

If they want to add a serious top line starter, JD is all I can see that would do it. Not that Im promoting dealing him. But 40mil + for corner outfielders is bad buissness imo. And nobody is taking Upton.

Two small deals. A 4th starter and "decent" 7th inning guy really improves this team greatly. And that wouldn't require mortgaging the future. Just young pieces. Especially if it's taking on salary. Teams going nowhere love to ditch a bloated contract.

JV to the Red Sox keeps shoving itself in my face. Not buying it. Too much money and they aren't going to give us Betts or Bradley or Ricky P back anyway. OrMoncado.

A lot of teams are interested in Hill....so that will drive his price up. I doubt Moya alone will do it. As for Boyd....that is a possibility I had not thought of. Of course with Hill having blister problems, the A's will have to wait until the end of the month and see how he does in a couple of starts before the "bids" come in. The Angels may keep Santiago if they can move Matt Shoemaker (Eastern Michigan guy!) or Jered Weaver.

Red Sox got Pomeranz from the Padres...so they might pull back on looking for starting pitchers.

Let Greene start

Detroit has had a chance to use Greene as a starter. It looks like they prefer him coming out of the pen. He might be one of those guys that loses a good deal of velocity or control after 40-50 pitches? But if they don't land another starter by the end of the month and Norris' and or Zimmermann's injuries linger...they may have to rethink.

Last I heard, Zimmermann and Norris are not ready for a return next week.....leaving Detroit with Verlander, Fulmer, Sanchez, Boyd, and Pelfry. Not exactly scary.

A's are getting a .210 BA and only 8 homers from the DH spot this year. Moya has value there. But I agree that we definitely won't be the only team asking for a price on Hill.

Outfielder Tyler Collins will reportedly be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to join the Detroit Tigers for this weekend's series against the Kansas City Royals.

The Toledo Blade first reported that Collins would replace Justin Upton, who was placed on the bereavement list Thursday.
